Hi I am very new to diablo2 and wanted to check a few things before I try and upgrade D2 LOD and play online, a bit of advice is wanted.

What are the minimum requirements for my PC
Can I get rid of or reduce the loading lag when entering new areas.
How do I download the patches (e.g v1.10) - I have loojked on battlenet and there are a few different ones for USA but nothing for UK/europe.
How long will the patch take to download?

Last but not least any general advice for a newbie online

Thanks to all for reading

Here is the minimum system requirements from blizzard.com

64 MB RAM
800MB available hard drive space (in addition to original Diablo II Multiplayer install).
28.8 Kbps or faster modem
Up to 8 Players: Over TCP/IP Network or Battle.net® (Requires low-latency Internet connection with support for 32-bit applications)

To reduce the lag between switching acts, you can download D2Loader and copy some files onto your harddisk.

Once you connnect to Battle.net, the patch download will start automatically if necessary. Depending on the network connection you have, it may take 2-20 minutes to download.

As for suggestions, you have to first decide which character you are going to play and then research on that char.

Good luck!

Forgot to paste the single player system requirement, which goes first before the multiplay requirement:

Windows® 2000*, ME, XP, 95, 98 or NT 4.0 Service Pack 5
Pentium® 233 or equivalent
64 MB RAM
800MB available hard drive space (in addition to original Diablo II Multiplayer install).
4X CD-ROM drive
DirectX™ compatible video card

Ok, I'll help with what I know (and I'll send along a PM to others I know in Europe that can help you)

First off, the minimum requirements are listed on the game box.( You may already know that, bear with me.) Next check to make sure that your Pc has or exceeds those requirements.

There should be some sort of sticker on your PC's tower with some of the info you need as to the Os, memory etc,.
Also on your desktop, right click the My computer icon ( or whatever it is) Select properties and left click.

There should be a series of tabs to click on , look for those saying hardware profiles or device manager for starters.

Lag issue ? Close down other non necessary programs when playing, I.E. Yahoo messenger, Aim, ( Press control + Alt + Tab to see a list of active progs)

Where to download? Lemme look, I can find a link...

How Long to Download ? Depends on your internet connection ( Dail up, Dsl, Cable and how old/new your pc is.) Processor speed also affects this somewhat.

To decrease load time(say when you enter the frozen tundra where the cd starts spinning) copy the D2XMUSIC file from your LOD cd to your diabloII folder. That causes the music to be played from your harddrive and not having to have the cd spin up.

The listing on the Battlenet patch site is just the 'mirror' site list you can download the patch from. All of the links get you the same patch, you should just pick whichever is closest (in theory, giving you the best download time). The download is 4.88MB so it'll take a while to d/l (a few minutes on cable/DSL, an hour or two on dialup).

As already mentioned, you can get the patch by connecting to Battle.net through the game. Still, it may well be faster to download it from a proper FTP server.

I guess there isn't a difference between the UK and the US patch. However, Australia has its own patch

To avoid encountering lags due to a slow computer, try to switch off the 3d stuff in the game.
