I've always played on ladder because the first character I ever made was ladder and I've wanted to be able to transfer back and forth between characters. I've never really known what the heck the difference between the two was though. Anyone wanna fill me in?

Ladder(L) is new in this patch(1.1) it's basically where the highest level characters get their names posted on the ladder. In ladder there are ladder only items, or items that can only be dropped on ladder. Also exceptional-uniques can be upgraded to Elite-uniques on ladder, where as on ladder only normal-uniques can be upgraded to exceptional-uniques. Non-Ladder(NL) is carried over from the last path (.9), basically everyone got to keep their items, and play with them. . when this patch started people started ladder to get their name on ladder, find only ladder items, start over, and upgrade items. Now ladder is about the same as nl though because people have lots of items now.

Hope this helps you out,

ladder is basically the same thing as nl except with no dupes/bugged itams...and a few new items and cube recipes that can only be done on ladder.

I think there are dupes on ladder too.. just that there aren't that many.... the mass dupes of the past do not affect that economy.

Ladder creatures on hell difficulty have more life points than creature on non-ladder hell.

Also, the ladder creatures' AI is better. - not sure how that works exactly, something to do with "checks" being performed more frequently.
