View Full Version : A few little tips for my PvP Cold Sorc
I would have thought there would have been a cold sorc guide, but I guess not.
Looking for building of sorc, not really the gear. I'm more interested in Orb than blizzard. Here is my gear so you know:
+5%/-3% CF Occy
+5%/-4% CF Nightwings (+14% base)
Chains of Honor
-15% Req// +30% Light Res SS
+24 Mara's
2x Sojs
Arachnids Mesh
Magefist (for cast and Regen, I want cast for tele)
Silkweaves (Will need the mana)
Switch:
6/3/3 CTA + Lidless
10x Cold Skills charms + Anni
Yeah, all good. Now I'm more intersted in Stats and Skill placement and how and when I should go to make the leveling the least painless as possible. I plan on 96 Base str (yeah prob alot) to be able to use SS (some of my cold skills have + str).
Should I get max block or go all vit (PvP-wise)
My planned skill points are:
1 Warmth
1 Static
1 Teleport + Pre-reqs
20 Orb
20 CM
20 Ice Bolt
20 Blizzard
Rest to Glacial Spike
I was thinking that I would make Orb first, but do I want to move on to the Bolt or Cold Mastery? Blizzard would be 2nd to last to max, while glacial being final points.
Thanks to any help

You could also do a pure energy build and go for 20 telekinesis + with items slvl 40 energy shield. That way you should end with ~1000-1500 life and up to 4000 mana after call to arms while being able to absorb 95% of all attacks except poison and open wounds.
Orb in itself is fine, but it's relatively easy to absorb completely. So for pubby duels you might wanna reconsider, though even fully synergized blizzard can be completely negated. Your equipment looks good, except that i'd never use storm and max block but others disagree so i'm not going to put too much thought into that. There's a good thread stickied about energy shield if you like this idea.
Even with level 1 base blizzard you'll end up with around 3000 dmg, which is good for namelocking and getting 1/2 hits in while your opponent is retreating.
Only go 1 teleport with the energy shield build. Otherwise i'd sink a few into teleport so you can teleport infidently.
Why dont they just make you sorc mod already?
:uhhuh:

I also read the engergy shield guide. I kinda get it, but what would be stat placement?

Well usually people go 20 telekinesis and 7+ energy shield. With ultimate gear you can cast ES with only 7 base points invested.
+3 energy shield 'memory' staff +9
3 skills amu/circlet +6
3 ormus robe's +3
2 rings +2
Belt +1
Charms +11
Battle command +1
(skill shrine +2)
Total +33 or +35 but you shouldn't depend on skill shrines.
Do go for the full 95% though, because going from 90 to 95% is an effective increase in damage reduction of 100% while you only lose 5 skill points and a little extra mana. Full telekinesis is also recommended, because those last four points are an effective increase of 25%, while that takes 8 points initially (from 200 to 150% mana or from 100 to 75%).
I could be a mod :teeth:

With this build its going to be under 63 FCR which is vital for teleporting in PvP. I think other boots like Waterwalks save more stat points than silkweaves but that's just me :)
I also don't think unsynergized Blizzard will have enough points, since both FO and blizz are timered skills, and a cold absorber can deal with both at the same time. Try going hydra if you want something to do with spare points.
MAx block is the only way to go if you want a versatile PvP build. Max vit is ok i suppose if you're only dueling Necros or trapsins, stuff like that.

He's got 70 fcr. Waterwalks > silkweaves indeed, better put in energy (you can do that since you gain 65 life from ww's) than wear silkweaves. Will give more mana.
Blizzard is just another attack you have with no extra points spent, if it's at 3000 (which is still more than orbs dmg/shard) then why not use it? It's great for namelocking etc.
And my mentality is to not get hit with a sorceress, and if you do you better have as much life as possible to be able to take that hit. Especially with occy you can better be without block vs. melee sometimes, as you get blocklocked and die while you might teleport away through oculus. That won't happen if you're locked.

Hmm Occy + Arach + Magefist = 60 fcr?
The mentality for dueling is to not get hit, but the fact is: in duels, you'll get hit, the question of how many hits you can affoard to take is therefore vital. (If you don't get hit, whats the point of vitality anyway?)

Occy (30)+ Arach (20) + Magefist (20) = 70.
Ranged elemental attacks (frozen orb, blizzard) are hard to avoid. Melee isn't really.

I find blizzard quite easy to avoid, and charge difficult to avoid :/ The difference between max vit and max dex is about 40% Extra life. Now the trade off between 40% extra life and -75% damage is huge :P
I'll prob go for max block. With one hit kills able to do, I'll still want the block.
I dunno about energy shield. No Mana = No Teleport = Target.
I will switch out for Waterwalks and sink a few extra points in mana for a mana boost.
If I was to go for energy shield (hey I can always re-make), here we go:
Max Ice Bolt
Max Orb
Max Telekinesis
Max Energy Shield
1 in Warmth
Max Cold Mastery Last (get 10 points in it first.)
(This can be done at level 85)
I need 96 Base Str do to charms//anni so..
435 points to spend
I think base str is 10, so:
96 - 10 = 86
435 - 86 = 349
I need block formula.
Then how do I break up the remaining points? All to mana or half/half?
~Kbob
Edit: +56 Dex, so 25 + 56 = 81. Lets Say I need 250.
250 - 81 =169
349 - 169 = 180
180 Points to burn.
84 x 2 = +168 life an mana due to levels. + 37 Energy, +37 Vit, at least +200 life prob. So...
445 Life, no points
277 Mana
+132% more mana
+77% more life.
How to break it down...

what I said

Scratch the engergy shield thing. Cool concept, but not for my build.
I decided I need a cheesy build so I'm going blizz. I'll prob get like 60% Block. Go rest to vit (still maybe 30 or so pnts in NRG for more mana.)

If you're going for block, go for block. The difference between 60 and 75 is huge, it's from getting hit 40% to 25% which is almost twice less. Those few vita points are sacrificable for that.
Ps- make your thirteen-hundred and thirty-seventh post in this thread :D
