noob iron golem question

I don't play necros but I just picked up a Metalgrid that I'm going to use on another character. I was under the impression that iron golems stayed with you until they died so that you could make them out of a good item and have them stay around. This doesn't seem to be the case though. Can anyone tell me exactly how this works? Thanks.

They made it so that the ammy can give you charges for IG...but is only good for the game that you are in..or until it dies(whichever comes first).

If it could be like that...where you had IG keep with you after each game..There would be alot of wanna-be Necro's out there(and still telling us how bad we sux)with IG as their sidekick.

Once youve made an Iron golem it follows you from game to game until it dies, if you die it will also die, dont forget.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking forward to having an iron golem as my 'sidekick.' I guess I can still use him, just can't invest a good item in him.
