after maxxing hydra, fireball, fire mastery, i got a not-so-spectacular 1k damage. however, after putting eschutas and lidless on the switch, damage went up to 1.5k...not bad in hell, and comparable to chain lightning's 1.8k under similar circumstances (no eschuta/lidless, mastery, 1 synergy.)
i gonna try 20 ES/TK with the rest of the points.
how many total +skills before and after the eschuta's/lidless switch?

+5, shako, magefists, rising sun.
+4 from the switch, so +9.

Sounds good to me. Adding some more +skills, extra % damage and some -xx% fire res gear will certainly let hydra shine more.
With +12 skills and Eschutas i guess you would be able to get close to 1.9-2k damage, since without the added from Eschuatas you get around 1.6k average damage.

with the esch i get 1.5k.
seems passable in hell i suppose. i kill very slowly, but ci's die which is the main purpose.

you should focus on fire ball synergies. hydra isnt that great even on pvm.
u will be astonish to see 20k and more damage instead of the 3-4k hydras.

... but they do suck in comparison to fireball/meteor.
Here's a thread I started a while back, hoping someone can find a viable build using hydra. Basically anything involving hydra will be just a fun build, because of various factors which I list in the thread.

it was viable enough to finish hell and do baalruns. stripped her down already and made her a mule at level 80.
i have 2 meteor sorcs, no synergies, 1 in .09. servicable i suppose.
