Hi everyone! I was bored so decided to make a post where people share the most stupid (or useless) diablo 2 facts.
Here's mine:
If you drag a mana potion and click it onto your merc's icon, (s)he will say "i cant use that" and it falls on the floor. But, if you shift+rightclick, he will say "thanks!!!!," but YOU get the mana! You can use this to get a free THANKS out of him whenever you need mana, getting a free thanks witout actually having to give HIM a potion!

When you try to summon a skeleton out of a corpse, you may encouter a situation when you have already spent the mana and still fail to summon. This happens when the corpse comes to life before your summoning animation is finished. Very annoying to low level necros, once I used up all my mana and still did not get one skeleton---the fallen sharman obviously had much better FCR than I do.
Lam Esens Tome is always is The Ruined Temple which is always in the Kurast Bazaar.
I prefer to call it Lame Esen's Time therefore ;)

I did this last night, and I don't know if it is reproducable.
I had a level 9 sin in rogue encampment. I made her run around, but held shift down. the affect (left click and shift both held) made her look like she was ice skating (I had on birst of speed too). I held shift and would do long runs, and it looked a lot like she was skating around the encampment :)

I just miss the "omg, my barb won't stop running backwards!" bug :D
If you time it just right, you can stand on top of the chickens running around in act 1 so that they can't run away from you. They flap their wings like they are trying to run, but stay nicely stuck under your feet.
I learnt this trying to step on them to squish them like you can other little creatures that are outside of town.

Choose Identify from SKILLS menu and right-click. Holding right mouse button will get you char "dance" what looks very funny
If you take a scroll of identity and hotkey it, you can make your character dance with arm movements in town by right clicking your mouse.
EDIT: DOH! The guy above me just beat me to this thing. He must be genius.

It's the same with the bugs in Duriel's Chamber. I play a game of squishing as many as I can on the way to Tyrael. :)

i dunno if this is a stupid fact but its a pretty neat thing..
if u have just killed a pack of monsters and they dropped something u want but u dun have a TP scroll to go back to town and ur inventory is full as well, open ur iventory and use alt-pick to pick up the item..with the cursor still appearing as the item, press esc and exit..create or join a new game and ur item will drop in the new game at ur feet :lol:
Well I noticed something a few days ago! (rate my noob lvl :))
If you have both cold and poison damage in effect at the same time, there's
a chance that the monster will shatter when it dies from the poison. (if it's still chilled that is :))

Once saved, Cain is in whichever town you go to, even if you talk to him in one town and then run to the WP and go to the next town, and I know that any of my chars can run faster than that old dude... wonder how he does it? :scratch:

besides, teleport squishing the big caterpillars in tal's chamber is much more fun!!!

My own fact:
When you kill the summoner in Act2, check out the spinning blue symbols surrounding the summoners "altar". The correct tomb for Duriel is the one symbol that is not present at the summoners location.

This is my self-found fact:
Every time you revive a monster using the charges from an "Eternity" weapon, you do something like a crushing blow to yourself---you lose about 15%~20% of your max life. (A real crushing blow is 20% of your current life.)
If you start a game, and you're in act2, the fastest way to get anywhere is to talk to Warriv right where you spawn, and 'go west' to act1. Then its a much shorter hike to the waypoint/stash/etc. Unfortunately doing a similar stunt from act3 will not get you anywhere else very fast.
Another tidbit, sorcs (or charges of telek) can activate the stash or waypoint from anywhere in town that they can see it. However, if you open stash with telek, and then open cube in your inventory, when you close the cube your stash will NOT be reopened.

In the sewers beneath Lut Gholein, the staircases down to the next level are always leading down in the opposite direction of the stair legend on the map. This has always bothered me.
In the sewers, if you want to get to level 2 fast, take the entrance near Meshif.

another silly fact is that if you let your druid get a little banged up and then take him and his carrion vine into pindle's garder it will eat some of the bodies before they resurect. Of course this is dangerous and prolly safer to do with mana and the solar creeper thingy if you have it.

In a4 you can see many piles of skulls but they drop no skulls (i.e. flawed skull). If they're piles of skulls why you can't take those skulls? :scratch:
Another one: when Diablo spawns and you kill him fast enough the sentence he always says when spawned is played when he's already dead ^^.

Whenever you see an experience shrine, look for the cursed boss monster which ~9 times out of ten is nearby, and who will curse you just after you pressed the experience shrine. Kill the cursed boss first!

also works on scrolls - and is cheaper - sell your tome to charsi or farah or any non scroll selling type and you buy it back all filled up cheaper than buying 15-20 scrolls.

After killing baal for the quest, you can click on the spot tyrael's going to land at long before he lands.
If your barb merc (act5) levels while under the influence of battle orders, his life will be re-set to its natural (non-bo) value when he levels. On your screen his lifebar will drop to about 1/3. Eventually he will regen/lifesteal back to full battle-order life. I'm not sure if this works with non-barb mercs the same way.
Also, if you drop the malah resist scroll, or life potion in another difficulty where you have already done the quest, you will NOT be able to pick them back up again. I'm not sure how you go about getting them back again.... For obvious reasons I didn't mess around with this too much. :)

If you leave your anihilus charm on the ground for an hour, it disappears like a normal unique! :D

"Disco Time" is a lot more fun with a Necromancer with lots of FCR items and maxed Amplify Damage. It has sort of strobe light affect because of the drop in framerate.

If you stand down in one of the corners in Rouge Camp and someone comes over wondering what you're doing, just tell the bugger to bugger off and let you pee alone.
At the palisad of Rogue Camp, there are some tower looking thicker parts of the wall at the exit. Stand outside camp and teleport inside this space and you're immobile.
Charsi is cold and mean, she hasn't budged an inch even though I've brought her treasures from around the entire world.

in act 5 west of your stash and south of Laz there is a holding pen...
its a GREAT place to cast you clay / blood / fire golem or your valk
they look soo funny running around trying to get out.

that guy in the river of flame (the angel) no idea well you can shout him. Also he and the little heads just north of wp follow you with their eyes as you pass by.
Also on a side note its funny to convert monsters and watch them fight each other even though they are immune to their attacks.
If you type Shout(insert word), the Shout never stays.
So if you type Shoutbug only bug will be shown.
Don't know if it has been mentioned here already, but you should NOT miss this one :p
In the game, press Enter so the textprompt comes up... turn up the volume... write soundchaosdebug then press enter and listen to the inferno of sounds, I don't know for long this goes on, I can't take it anymore after a couple of minutes :lol:

Not only barb mercs, any merc under BO will reset to normal life when he/she levels up and appear to have lost half of the life
Pressing ALT and Leap Attacking makes you execute an (I believe) Auto targeting Leap attack, even if the monster is right next to you. Normally, with just Leap attack or SHIFT Leap Attack he would do a normal attack.
Drawback is of course that you see all the writing of the items on the ground. Its actually not a useless fact at all..only learned it a month ago.
If you type Shout(insert word), the Shout never stays.
So if you type Shoutbug only bug will be shown.
This was removed with 1.10, I never figured out what it was for. It definately had me confused though. The way I found out was when I tried to type something like "shout and BO maxed" or something and it would keep displaying as "and BO maxed". When I had done this three times I was typing REAL slow watching the letters as I typed them to make sure that I didn't forget the "shout".
Also, typing IDDQD in-game will grant you God-mode.

I realize this is a "useless advice" thread. Anyway, it seems to have turned into a useful advice thread, so I'll toss this in:
If you're one of the very smart people who fear the amp curse on your head, know that if there's a shrine nearby, and if it's one of those that give you a thing above your head, it will remove the curse. So instead of going to town, take the shrine. Wells will do the same, and that even works for your merc as well.
Correct me plz. I seem to be teh drunk.
Also, typing IDDQD in-game will grant you God-mode.

heres a really nifty trick i found out
if u find wirts leg in tristram and go back to town with it, add a town portal along with the leg into your empty cube and click transmute u will open up a secret red portal :)

Ah, and kill the Chicken Queen and you get a small golden egg charm that gives you a +50 bonus to life but makes you walk funny for the rest of the game.

I thought of another stupid fact:
If you normally hot-key to your book of town portals, so you can right-click on the battle-field to cast them try this:
Put your book of portals in your stash. Then buy a new book and put it (as normal) into your character's inventory.
Now go to the battlefield and try to press your hotkey and right-click to cast portal. You will go through the animation, but no portal will be cast!!! This can be deadly in a fight when you're trying to go to town to heal/remove amp/etc.
The ONLY way to cast portals in this situation is to open your inventory and right-click on the actual book, or to keep scrolls in your belt (or perhaps individual scrolls in your inventory). It took me a few days to figure out what the heck was going on when I did this by accident once.
Simply take the book out of your stash to get things back to normal.
When you're dead, hover your mouse over a monster and leave it there.
Pressing B will move the mouse left and C will move it right.

That sor was not only a random fact but also a great thread revival :thumbsup:.
I guess my random fact is that there is a door in the secret cow level that does not exist. (it's on the map but not there ingame)
Another random fact: many players will express their disapproval if you join "Free Stuff Here" games and make Iron Golems out of everything that drops. Some of these players may also make suppositions regarding your race, sexuality, and religious preferences. Remember: you read it here first.
Another random fact (tested and proven): squashing every bug in Tal Rasha's Chamber does not serve any purpose beyond sheer visceral pleasure.
Another (useful) random fact: as long as you proceed to Act 2 in the same game in which you complete the quest, Andariel will always give quest drops when killed in successive games.

Actually, you need only speak to warriv for that to happen.
Another stupid fact: When you open your cube from inside the stash, and then close it using space, there's a brief moment where no window is shown that is extremely useful for droping stuff on the ground.
