Well........... i guess i am a noob.

1. leveling my low level barb, come across a level 24 pally who likes to hostile the party a lot...
2. bring back my level 25 fireball sorc (all decked out) and hostile him, he just happens to be a memeber of the party at the time (different game from when he hostiled then hunted)
3. some necromancer drops from chicken hack
4. some level 88 barb joins game and challenges me
5. i note ethereal sword, assume its BOTD (rightly by his response) and accuse him of using dupes.
6. Both him and level 96 sorc who also joined after i hostiled go totally off defending the weapon... saying "saying something is duped is noob's excuse"
and that zod can be obtained without too much difficulty doing rushes for hell forge and cubing up.

Am i right to assume that his etheral BOTD sword is 100% sure to be duped?

on a side note, what is the highest rune that can be dropped from hell forge and what chance of being dropped, just for my trivia or whatever.

Don't feel bad, you were right on accusing him of using duped runes for his botd. There is no way in hell that that thing is legit. The chance of that sword being legit is roughly 0.00000001%. In other words, it wasn't.

Edit: Oh, and as for zods being easily attainable, I'd ask him what game he's playing, because it's not this one.

With all the rune duping that went on, you must remember that someone had to find a zod and vex before they could be duped.

So, there might just be 1 Eth BOTD that isn't using duped runes!

I'm not sure what hellforge goes up to, but its at least Gul :cool:

Nope. You forgot about the upgrading thing. Though there were zod already when someone discovered the duping method, the chance that the zod (or vex+) finder actually knows the duping method is very low as the duping time window is very narrow.

Hell hellforge can drop up to Lo rune. But, realisticly, don't count on anything higher than Gul. While cubing Guls into Vexes and Los into Surs is OK. It would be stupid to cube Vexes into Ohms and Ohms into Los.

As for the BotD user, you should treat him as one who claimed to have survived 10 lightening strokes---it's possible, but let's be 0.000000001% over-synical this time.

Hell countess can drop up to LO , hell Helforge quest can only drop to GUL.

As for cubing up to ZOD lets say for arguments sake you got a GUL on every helforge you did it would take 128 GULS to = ZOD if you cubed them up

Let's see here, gul is what, 25 out of 33?
2=26
4=27
8=28
16=29
32=30
64=31
128=32
256=33
That's 256 hell hellforge runs assuming 2 computers so you don't have to share runes, and getting Guls every time. If you "averaged" Mal every time which is a bit more realistic that'd be 1024 runs, just to get the Zod for your sword. If a full rush only takes you half an hour that's still 512 hours of playing or so JUST for the rushing. Now I play a fair bit, but that's like 64 days playing 8 hours of hellforge rushing straight...I don't think I've quite accumulated that much. Next time ask him to define easy -.-

I got a Gul on my first hellforge try.

You have to remember that the surplus of runes came during the dupe.

No way would anyone dupe 100+ Gul's for a Zod. Instead you maybe dupe 24 or so, cube them up, dupe that dupe 24 or so, cube them up etc. Once you had the runes you wanted you'd just continueally dupe those.
