Best shield for sanctuary runeword?

Str doesn't really matter, but over 160 is a waste IMO.

Any of the paladin only shields (preferrably and exceptional or elite version) with at least 40 resists already on the shield. You can easily get over 100 resists with a decent shield.

Oh, sorry. Was thinking of a non-paladin shield. Gonna use it for other chars too!

A paladin shield with sanctuary is a waste IMO as you can get HoZ for the runes sanctuary requires. HoZ>>Sanc anytime!

ko ko mal is a lot cheaper than HoZ on ladder at least, also the slow missiles charges can be quite usefull....

for other chars go Monarch, 156 str req, best blooking, light/medium shield.

Great. I just happen to have a 3 socket Monarch and 2*Ko. Just the hard part left =)

EDIT: Hyperion seems like a better choice. Sure it's a little lower def and its medium but the all important req and blocking is better.

Wow right about the hyperion, i am way too used to Monarchs by now... and yes, it has the best block in the game and only takes the 5%-10% speed penalty by being medium... if you find one use it instead...

Troll nests and blade barriers have same blocking as hyperions, are light shields,require less str.. plus blade barriers look awesome imo ~~

I have mine made on a Hyperion, relatively low str req, good block% and Medium. Troll and Blade Barriers DO NOT have the same block as Hyperion

Hyperion looks better than Troll nest IMO, but thats individual.

Troll Nests and Blade Barriers have a base of 40% blocking while the Hyperion has 44% blocking... 4% is a good bunch of dexterity saved...
Hyperions have the same chance to block as Aegis(218str) and Wards(185str) while only needing 127str...


Edit: the numbers are for sorcs, but the difference of 4% is for every character.

but the Troll nest is 19 str less, so you'd need to do a bunch of math if 4% blocking>19dex or vit

If we go that route then the Heater option is even better, 2% better blocking than troll and only 77 str (29 less str req than troll!)...

NEVERMIND :P... got extremely confused with another thread about Shael+Eth (Rhyme) on shields... for Sanctuary yes, the troll should be better and if money isn´t a problem it should be a superior if possible to spawn with max defence.

Ahem a sanctuary pally shield with perfect rolls would get +115 res which makes me say this to even an upgraded herald, CYA! Besides that sanctuary shield still provides nice defense as well as hit recovery (very important for pvp or pvm) and decent blocking (20% block/rate). That and it has a hell of a lot more style than the 3462662145613515135th paladin running around there with "HOZ". Sanctuary hands down for a melee paladin, a herald still wins for hammerdins due to the big boost in skills.

edit- As for the "best" shield to make it in, i would say a sacred targe as it has the highest base pally blockign % of all pally elite shields (60%). If blocking isn't that important than pick some good mix of defense and blocking eg. kurast shield.

I pvp, i use a 115 herald sanctuary. 58 def but i dont care since i duel casters with it ^_^

115 all resistance is aweosme... I still have 26-27k def with sanctuary so im happy ^_^
