View Full Version : 6 o/s eth archon staff...
Ok I just got my hands on one and will be BOTD'ing it. I want to know what Druid build will best benefit from it. Post stats if possible.

It's base 10 (-10 on goon calc) 91 average., 83-99 damage, range 2.
Glorious Axe, which is range 4, 92 average, 60-124, 10 base. So technically better, but the min dmg on archon staff is awesome. Dmg will be something like 600-700, check the speed on goon's calc.
Edit: One great thing about the Archon staff is the LOW strength req, meaning you could probably go a base str build if you used enigma too, and have a bit more freedom of gear.

Probably best on a Fury Werewolf. I think it hits 5 frames for that.
Good luck!
is glorious axe the best for botd for druids? which builds?
(got a eth superior one so i'm curious :P)

Does Glorious Axe get 6 sockets?
Lazy pants! :surprise:
Yes it does. 1 Avg. dmg difference is nothing to worry about. The range of archon is only 2 though, while glorious axe is 4. But if you're going for a glorious axe you might as well go for a great poleaxe because they have similiar requirements.
For c-beat, that axe really shines for 2hand on a barbarian since you'll likely have BoTD zerker and then that axe against casters so you'll benefit from the axe mastery.

potential of the ethereal botds->
glorious axe: 4 range, 9/5 fpa fury
great poleaxe: 5 range, 8/5 fpa fury
personally i prefer the gpa for dueling and the glorious axe for pvm.

Style is Queen. Damage is King.
Style is Queen. Damage is King.
Speed is king.
50k damage at 100fpa is no good.
another question then, what would be the best BOTD wpn for a druid?

Hmm that rule assumes maximum possible speed :)
It's a rather dead rule though. Rather a druid with 3k dmg & 6k life than 5k dmg & 3k life. Not so true in .09 but now it is ;) (for all-around pvp that is, pvm is a joke anyway if you have the BoTD  )

well to be more clear, 8/5fpa is probably the fastest speed you can do with botd wep fury. iirc, you'll lack like 5%ias to hit 4fpa with a giant thresher.

Speed is king.
50k damage at 100fpa is no good.
while 20 damage at 5fpa is awesome
while 20 damage at 5fpa is awesome
5fpa is not good to compare to 50k dmg.
More like, 100 dmg at 1fpa is nice.

1 frame per attack you would just always be attacking, right?

im sorry I am a noob when it comes to druids. Ask me about pally's and sorcs and im an expert-lol. So an Eth BOTD Archon Staff is not as good as an eth BOTD GPA? Is it even worth making a BOTD out of it?

Mathamaticly, a BOTD Archron Staff, while good, is not the best weapon for either type of druid. It is still a very sound weapon and the sheer rarity (both of the runes and of an Etheral Archron Staff) give it major style points, to anyone who understands a bit about the game

Archon Staff is highly worth it. Very close to having equal damage, much cooler, much rarer... I'd do it. Besides, Ethereal Great Poleax is going to be pretty hard to acquire.
Five frame Fury with better damage can beat 4 frame Fury with lower damage. That's why Damage is King.
Ya I've done it with a werebear on open, it's cool, you hear a lot of the snarls, but you're just sitting there in pre-hit animation while their health drops like a lot of poison.

How did you manage to do that? O_O

22-03-2004, 06:17
wait, wasnt there a sort of bug that physical damage doesnt get factored in if its too fast? or was it elemental damage?
Something like 400ias on a champion axe? I forget really, but at a point there's no hit animation at all which I'm assuming is a 1 frame attack, and their health just drops steadily as you hit them.

Etheral Archon Staff == tr駸 ****ing cool
Etheral Glorious Axe > all in the coolness stakes though.
THose danmed axes are just so BIG  Best looking weapon in the game :yep:

yeah thats something what i expected, well... except the 5 frames thing. fastest frame that would still work is 4 frames.
fen, u lie?
so i suppose that the 9% ed ethereal superior gloriouse axe with 6 sockets i found is acctually worth somehting if i can find someone who play druids and is rich enough :P

I will make a test according to TheDragoon's calculator for 3,2 and 1 fpa and post the results tonight.

One test for physical dmg and one for elemental dmg
test 1
giant tresher (base 10) with 1000 ish dmg and 40 ias
4 sockets
4x 105 ias jwls
lvl 20 lync, feral rage, fury and ww.
attacking with standard, fury and feral rage
each jwl inserted will get to a new bp. here are bp's I got from TheDragoon's calculator
4 133 %
3 231 %
2 316 %
1 457 %
insert jwl 1, 4 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks
insert jwl 2, 3 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks
insert jwl 3, 2 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks
insert jwl 4, 1 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks, but no attack animation
test 2
phase blade (base 30) with 85 ias
4 sockets
4x 105 ias jwls
lvl 20 ww, lync and fully synergised lvl 42 fire claws
attacking with fire claws and feral rage (to see that very little physical damage is dealed wrt fire claws)
each jwl inserted will get to a new bp. here are bp's I got from TheDragoon's calculator
4 142 %
3 251 %
2 346 %
1 504 %
insert jwl 1, 4 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks
insert jwl 2, 3 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks
insert jwl 3, 2 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks
insert jwl 4, 1 fpa
it gives damage for all attacks, but no attack animation
----------------------
conclusion:
in 1.10, both physical and elemental damge can be dealed at speeds faster than 4 fpa; namely 3,2 and 1 fpa.
no attack animation at 1 fpa, though

back ON topic...
yeah, i got my hands on an eth archon staff a week or so ago... been tryin to trade for the runes for botd
i'm gonna be using it as a pvm weapon, so range isn't a big issue for me... (and i would never EVER use a 5 frame wep in 2 handed pvp... unless i was highly skilled at it, which i am not)
i'm a big fan of style and min dmg... if it's got a high min, then i'm in... what good is 600 max dmg if you got a min dmg of 4 or 5? i'd rather have a wep with 252-352... same avg as 4-600, but much more consistancy...
and the Archon Staff does deserve some uber style and originality points... that's why i'm makin mine... (that and it's got killer min dmg... along with a decent max)

hey black dog, do you play on east nl? if so, i would highly like to see the archon staff being wielded by your char when made into a botd... thanks

Extra points if the Staff has +3 Enchant +3 Fire Mastery and +3 frozen armor. Then you can have a sick melee sorc...
