View Full Version : Crushing Blow in PvP
Hello I've been reading all things i've found on crushing blow, still it's unclear for me this two things in PvP:
Lets imagine Amazon vs Barbarian, Ama with 25% chance of crushing blow, Barb 6000 life, 50% damage reduce.
Ama hits barb with crushing blow. Now barb looses 6000/20 = 300 life, or (((6000/20)/6)/2) = 25 life?
1/6 from pvp penalty, 1/2 from dr %
Thx for your time, probably you will take of my doubts Hf :worship:
IIRC Crushing Blow does not go through the PvP dmg penalty, because it's not dmg. It's merely a modification of the amount of life a monster/players has.
The barb would lose 150 life.
i thought the pvp penalty for CB was 1/16th, surely then that would be 375?

I like Crushing Blow when I fight 8ppl Baal. But all I know comes from Arreat Summit and diabloii.net. I don’t doubt it is true. However I test it many times vs monsters.
Arreat Summit:
Crushing Blow
This is a chance of reducing a monster's health by X% in a single blow.
Default: 1/4th
vs. Players: 1/10th
vs. Hirelings: 1/10th
vs. Champions, Uniques, Bosses: 1/10th
with missile weapons: 1/8th
Physical resistance does apply to Crushing Blow damage, but only if the resistance is positive. Crushing Blow Items stack in most cases. Crushing Blow is calculated after your normal damage. So, after doing the damage that you would normally do, there is a chance you will reduce the health of the monster by X% after that. If you have more than one item with Crushing Blow, the probabilities will be added together. There will be one random check for a Crushing Blow. There is no check for each separate item, so one can not get multiple Crushing Blows in one attack.
diabloii.net:
Crushing Blow works with all attacks and on all targets, but the reduction in hps is much less than it was in D2. The following lists the actual percent hps removed. This is from a monster's current hps, not it's maximum, so you'll notice big drops on full hps monsters and very little on ones that are low.
Normal monster: 1/4 Melee, 1/8 Ranged Attack.
Other: 1/10 Melee, 1/20 Ranged Attack.
"Other" includes all types of boss monsters as well as other players and their hirelings. This doesn't sound like much, but if Izzy has 100,000 hps, taking off 1/20th with your bow would be worth 5,000 hps.
Crushing Blow is best used with a high percentage, and when hitting very fast and for low damage it makes a big difference.
So, Barb will lose ((6000-(Ama Bow damage/2)/6)/20)/2, 1/20 - CB, 1/2 - DR, 1/6 - PvP penalty.

Arreat Summit:
Check AS again, you seem to have a very old copy, it had some initial errors regarding the ranged modifications. Geoff missunderstood me. And it is also now correct in that CB applies first.

It seems I must update my AS base. Now it holds:
Crushing Blow
This is a chance of reducing a monster's health by X% in a single blow.
-Default: 1/4th
-vs. Players: 1/10th
-vs. Hirelings: 1/10th
-vs. Champions, Uniques, Bosses: 1/8th
-with missile weapons, default: 1/8th
-with missile weapons, vs. Players: 1/20th
-with missile weapons, vs Hirelings: 1/20th
-with missile weapons, vs Champions, Uniques, Bosses: 1/16th
-The life removed is also scaled with number of players. So that if a monster has 450% more life due to 8 players (or whatever the value is) the life removed is further reduced by the same amount (450% would equal multiplying by 4.5 so the life removed by Crushing Blow is divided by 4.5). Physical resistance does apply to Crushing Blow damage, but only if the resistance is positive. Crushing Blow Items stack in most cases. In 1.10 Crushing Blow is calculated before your normal damage. So, before doing the damage that you would normally do, there is a chance you will reduce the health of the monster by X% then normal damage apply to the resulting lower life. If you have more than one item with Crushing Blow, the probabilities will be added together. There will be one random check for a Crushing Blow. There is no check for each separate item, so one can not get multiple Crushing Blows in one attack.
So Barb takes damage of: (6000/20)/2=150 + (Addition damage with Bow). And Barb must have full life, of couse.
RTB was correct, except Barb will also take normal (non CB) Amazon Bow damage.
