Cheap Merc Gear? (East ladder)

Hello there...

I was wondering what are the most commonly used "cheaper" items for a might merc to be successful in hell. I need to equip him but don't have the endless funds to buy incrediably good items.

I know that lots of life leech, defense, and resists will help keep him alive. But, I've heard alot about crushing blow and slow target working out well.

I'm confused at the moment can anyone help me out?

I use a rockstopper for the dr and an ethereal duriel shell that I found. I also found a normal duriel shell so it's probably not very rare. Weapons are Unique Thresher (didn't find it myself) and/or Ariocs needle (found myself)

If your merc is not yet high level a smoke runeword armour is nice. High def and resis.

here are some great choices that aren't the uber runeword high-end items:

armor: duriels shell, spirit forge or lionheart for all-around, Guardian angel if worried about elemental

Helm: tals mask, rockstopper, or crown of thieves for all-around, Kira's guardian if worried about elemental

weapon: hone sundan is EXCELLENT on bosses for the crushing blow. Bonehew is also nice, because of huge damage. Reaper's toll (the unique thresher) won't benefit you as much because youre' already a necromancer... and the best thing about that weapon is %chance to cast decrep.

Honor Runeword (AmnElIthTirSol), the Sol rune is the only one that requires any effort to find

Passion on a Eth Cryptic Axe that I happened to find on a Baal run is also a good choice if you wanted to go for the Runeword route. It isn't incredibly hard to make, with Dol and Lem being very accessible, the final damage was somewhere around 170 to 650. The blinding aspect has helped me quite a bit as it enables a quick escape if need be. :D

Everything here are great comments, but runewords will be more costly on ladder.

Why not Tomb Reaver? Simple, Troll has Decrep, amazing spell to have.
