"Superior" adds what mods exactly?

I found a sup BA on NL with +1AR... Imagine this:

*HoD is pitrunning*
*He kills a boss pack, and my oh my, look at that, a grey BA. He thinks:' Well that can't be a Sup ETH BA, it's probably a BA with two sockets or something.'*
*HoD picks up the axe... Wooaaaah, ETH 6 socket BA ! And it's superior too, now this has a large tradevalue, let's see how much %ed it has.*
*HoD checks the sup mods, and notices it's only +1AR. He now feels very angry.*

I belive that "superior" also grants max base dmg/def for regular items in cases it can vary.
