ALL MUST READ THIS:::
By responding to this guide, I hereby understand that I will not flame the templar build or that it can be nullified with enough lightning resist. My post will be productive, not deductive. I understand that if a problem with the guide needs to be changed - I will address the problem without letting my ego get in the way.
I. INTRODUCION
I am on USWest Nonladder and you may have seen me going through your pk games - Primat_WvX. I have been seing a lot of questions about a templar and a few requests on a good guide. Thats what I am going to do for you today. 'Why Fist of Heavens?' you might ask... FOH combined with the conviction aura is one of the [or THE] deadliest public duel skills in the game. This build is pretty similar to a V/T build, but is Very different as well. This guide if for the rich, poor, stupid, and the smart. So if its too elementary for you - put up with it because I made it reader friendly. Lets go to the skills choices...
II. SKILL CHOICES
-Fist of Heavens: This will be your main attack, and maxing it is a must. 20 points go here.
-Holy Shock: The only Synergy that effects the damage of FOH - and helps the damage greatly [a synergy is passive - you do NOT need to have this aura active to receive the bonus]. 20 points go here
-Conviction: This will be your main and always active aura. At level 25, this will reduce your enemies resistances by -150%. Without this aura FOH is next to nothing. DO NOT MAX THIS SKILL. ONLY put enough to get it to 25 with your end game items - since this skill is capped at lvl 25 [the -%resist]
-Holy Shield: This will help your blocking and defense greatly. Maxing this is not a MUST but it is HIGLY recommended for almost all PvP builds, since your defense will reduce the enemies chance to hit you. I highly recommend 20 points here.
::PAUSE::
At this time - with your necessities where the points need to go - you have used ABOUT 73 skill points. [It can change a bit depending on how much you need to get to 25 on conviction]. I will make this guide thinking you will get to level 80. Now at level 80 and with all your +skill quests done - you have about 91 skills to distribute - so this leaves you with about 18 left.
::continues::
Now the recommended ONE POINT wonders:
-Holy freeze [a nice tool to have when you need it]
-Vigor [a lil +frw when you need it]
-Salvation [if you have low resists - or if you need help to nullify an enemies conviction this can help]
The skills laid out in a ‘ME NO LIKE TO READ’ manner:
20 FOH
20 Holy shock
20 Holy shield
25* Conviction
1-x Smite [rest]
Now with some points to spare - what do i do?!?!?
I would highly recommend dumping the 'rest' into smite. Since in 1 vs 1 duels - a good opponent will stack their resists MAJORLY to nullify your conviction - hence making your FOH pointless. With smite, you can do some good damage to them and the shield you will want to get for FOH - deals nice smite damage as well. Try to dump your extra points here.
If you are anti-smite , you can dump them into defiance. Defiance is a synergy to holy shield and will passively give you more defense.
III. STAT CHOICES [ATTRIBUTES]
Strength: Just enough to use the item with the most strength required. Make sure to factor all the +str you get from the items before it - so you can get maximum vitality.
Dexterity: Just enough for maximum blocking. That depends on the shield you use etc - just ask someone about that.
Vitality: ALL YOU CAN HERE
Energy: NONE - nothing here
IV. EQUIPMENT CHOICES
Helms:
Harlequin Crest Shako [98-144 defense]
+2 all skills
+1.5 life per clvl
+1.5 mana per clvl
+50% Magic Find
Physical Damage reduced by 10%
+2 all atributes
The above would be your BEST choice for this build. With the 2 skills, nice life and mana, and descent damage reduced - this is the best choice for your build. Lets see the cheaper alternatives.
Peasant Crown War Hat [92-108 defense]
+1 all skills
+20 energy
+20 vitality
+15% frw
+6-12 replenish life
100% enhanced defense
The above would be a descent and very cheap alternative with the 1 skills, 20 ene and vit, and the frw.
Vampire Gaze Grim Helm [122-252 defense]
+6-8% mana stolen per hit
+6-8% life stolen per hit
15% slower stamina drain
Physical Damage reduced by 15-20%
Magical Damage reduced by 10-15
+100% Enhanced defense
Adds 6-22 cold damage
The above would be a descent alternative if you Really needed the damage reduced. But since it isnt much more dr than a shako - and a shako has WAY better other mods - i would go with shako since they are about the same worth.
Armour:
Enigma RuneWord [jah+ith+ber]
+2 all skills
+45% frw
+1 Teleport [this is not a charge - it acts as a skill for all classes]
+757 defense
+0.75 strength per clvl
+Increased maximum life by 5%
+Damage reduced by 8%
+14 life after each kill
+15% damage taken goes to mana [ does not effect life ]
+1% magic find per clvl
The above is your 1# armour for this build. The mods tell it all. 2 skills, major frw, the teleport skill [VERY effective in public duels], VERY high defense [can get up to about 1200], max life +5%, 8% dr. Expensive but worth while. If you can afford - get one.
Gaurdian Angel Templar Coat [707-825 defense]
+1 Paladin skills
+4 Light radius
+180%-200% enhanced defense
+30% Faster Blocking
+15% Maximum resists to all
+5 attack rating against demons per clvl
+20% chance to block
The GA [most common abbreviation for the gaurdian angel] is mostly used for the +15% max resists - giving you a possibility of 90 resists to all. With its one skill and good + max resists, this is the next best from the enigma.
Chains of Honor RUNEWORD [dol+um+ber+ist]
+2 all skills
+200% damage to demons
+100% damage to undead
+8% life stolen per hit
+70% enhanced defense
+20 strength
Replenish life +7
+65 all resists
Damage reduced by 8%
25% magic find
With two skills this is a nice armour. This is an alternative from the enigma armour, if you really need that 65 resists. Very good mods, and same worth as enigma on most realms. I still recommend enigma.
Orumus' Robes Dusk Shroud [361-467 defense]
+10-20 defense
+20% faster cast rate
+(10-15)% to Fire skill damage
+(10-15)% to Cold skill damage
+(10-15)% to Lightning skill damage
+3 Random sorc skill
This armour is another alternative since the possibility of +15% more foh damage is available. Some people prefer it - I dont.
Cheaper alternatives:
ANYTHING with plus skills will do if you have a very small budget. Ill give a list of some armours that add skills that are cheap.
-Vipermagi [+1]
-Spirit shroud [+1 - VERY easy to find in mf]
-Skullders [has good mf too]
-Que-Heagans [not a bad armour][+1]
-Silks of the Victor [+1]
Weapons:
Wizard Spike Bone Knife
+2 mana per clvl
+15% mana regeneration
+15% max mana
+75% all resists
Indestructable
+50% faster cast rate
The above is my PERSONAL favorite, but many disagree. YET, if you can achieve enough lightning resists to negate an opponents conviction [explained later] without using the GODLY +75 resists - use the next item listed.
Heart of the Oak RUNEWORD [ko+vex+pul+thul]
+3 all skills
+40% faster cast rate
+75% Damage to demons
+100 attack rating against demons
+3-14 cold damage
+7% mana stolen per hit
+1 blizzard [sorc only]
+10 dexterity
+replenish life +20
+Increased maximum mana +15%
+all resists +30-40% [varies]
Level 4 Oak Sage [25 charges]
Level 14 raven [60 charges]
+50% damage to undead
With the 3 skills, oak sage, and other descent mods - this is your Best choice UNLESS you need the +75 resists from the wiz spike to reach a MAJOR lightning resist. [that number explained later so don’t decide until you have finished reading]
NOTE: A wizard spike is Very easy to get so its either that or HOTO - no more options explained.
Shield:
Herald of Zakarum [362-507 defense]
+2 Paladin Skills
+2 Combat Skills
+150%-200% Enhanced defense
+30% faster blocking
+30% chance to block
+20 strength
+20 vitality
+20% bonus attack rating
+50% resists to all
With the major skills, and the fact that EVERY stat is a nice bonus to all paladins [50 resists is VERY helpful as well], this is a no brainer best for a templar.
Alma Negra [138-164 defense]
+180-210 enhanced defense
+30% faster block rate
+(1-2) paladin skill levels
+20% increased chance of blocking
Magical damage reduce by (5-9)
+(40-75)% bonus attack rating
+(40-75)% enhanced damage
With The skills this is an ok alternative - but too expensive to not get a herald of zakurum instead.
Storm Shield [94-144 defense]
+3.75 defense per clvl
Physical damage reduced by 35%
+30 strength
+35% faster blocking
+25% lightning resist
+25% chance to block
+60% cold resist
Attacker takes 10 lightning damage
This is an ok shield if you stress the damage reduced part.
Belts:
Arachnid Mesh [106-138 defense]
+(90-120)% enhanced defense
+20% faster cast rate
Level 13 venom (11 charges)
+1 all skills
Slows target by 10%
+5% maximum mana
This belt is one of two recommended belts for this build. The reason why it is so good is it's the only belt that has +1 skills. I recommend having this one and the next one listed to switch for different opponents.
Thundergod's Vigor [109-159 defense]
5% chance of casting a lvl 7 FOH on struck
+1-50 lightning damage [melee only]
+10% maximum lightning resist
Absorbs +20 lightning damage
+160-200% enhanced defense
+20 vitality
+20 strength
+3 Lightning strike [amazon only]
+3 Lightning fury [amazon only]
This built is my PERSONAL preference and I even sold my old arachnids mesh and use this baby 24/7. There are some VERY helpful mods on here and I think that they override the +1 skills on an arachnids. The 10% max light reists, absorbs lightning [not at %], strength, and the vitality are all great mods.
Verdungo's Hearty Cord [108-153 defense]
+(90-140)% enhanced defense
+(30-40) vitality
+(100-120) maximum stamina
10% faster hit recovery
Damage reduced by (10-15)%
Replenish life +(10-13)
This belt I have in stash for whirlwinding barbs. I do not have maximum damage reduction [which is now capped at 50% in 1.10] with my items on, and the 10 to 15% dr you get from this can help you with those barbs if they can take hits of your FOH. The vita is also very nice. Test them out first. If their life goes down on an foh - you can always run from them.
Gloves:
The gloves on a templar are next to nothing on the to-do list. There aren’t any legit godly gloves for this build. [there are the hacked wiz gloves but PLEASE DO NOT go out and support non-perm hacks]. I am not going to post the stats on the gloves here but here are a few possibilities.
-Frostburns [if you need the mana]
-Crafted gloves with resists/stats/ias [good for smite, and who doesnt want those resists]
I use crafted gloves with ias, str, resists, and some other mods.
Boots:
My favorite for a templar are good rares with frw, fhr, stats, and good resists. Mine use the USWest dupes known as the Wraith Brands. With about 50% to all the elemental resists, +19 str and more - these are VERY helpful. Most expensive and useful option: get good rares. Here are the next best and unique options.
Waterwalk [94-123 defense]
+100 defense to missles
+20% faster run/walk
+15 dexterity
+180-210% enhanced defense
+45-65 life
+40 stamina
+5% maximum fire resist
+50% stamina regeneration
Some people prefer these boots but I don’t. The life and good defense and the 5% max fire resist are the good mods here. I still prefer rares with good stats.
Silkweave [94-115 defense]
+150-190% enhanced defense
+5 mana after each kill
+200 defense vs. missles
+10% maximum mana
+30% faster run/walk
These boots are very cheap and help if you need mana [for some odd reason].
Rings:
Wisp Protector
Lightning absorb +(10-20)%
10% chance to cast a lvl 16 lightning on striking
(10-20)% magic find
Lvl 2 Oak sage (15 charges)
Lvl 5 Heart of Wolverine (13 charges)
Lvl 7 spirit of barbs (11 charges)
This is my favorite ring because the 10-20% lightning absorb and the oak sage. That lightning absorb makes you awesome vs all lightning attacks and most importantly, FOH. NOTE: These are very expensive...
Bul Kathos Wedding Band
+0.5 life per clvl
+1 all skills
+3-5% life stolen per hit
+50 stamina
This is another favorite of mine. I usually have a wisp and a bul kathos on at all times. The 40 life at character lvl 80, and the +1 skills is very sexy.
The Stone of Jordan
+20 mana
+25% maximum mana
+1-12 lightning damage
+1 all skills
This is an effective cheaper alternative. Yet if you can get a hold of a soj, then you could probably get ahold of a bul kathos. You will NOT need to worry about all that mana add, so the life on a bul kathos will do more for you in the long run.
Amulets:
A rare amulet with +2 skills, stats, resists, and other mods is your best option. If you are on west - a duped Viper Torc would be your best option. Now onto those non-rares options...
Mara's Kaleidoscope
+2 all skills
+20-30% resists all
+5 all attributes
This is your next best option from a really good rare amy. With the 2 skills, 20-30 resists, and the 5 attributes - its a great amulet and not hard to get.
Cheap amys:
If you cant get one of the amulets listed - get a rare amulet with combat skills on it. That’s a cheap and effective alternative.
CHARMS:::
To be very effective in PvP - you will NEED 10 combat gcs. They are not hard to get. When I made my templar I traded for a gc one at a time just cleaning off old mules... If you are very rich you can get them with life. For the small charms I recommend life / resists charms. Also life / lightning resists [solo resists - max mod is 11] are good to help you nullify an opponents conviction. If you cant afford life / resists mayby just look around for some solo lightning resists scs. I have found them in normal, nightmare, and hell and they are easy to trade for if your budget does not allow. Also try to get an annihilus [if you have one]. All the mods on that will help you be better.
V. Leveling Tips
This is considering you have a friend help you through the game for faster results.
1-12: Run through act one with a group of low lvls
12-20: Andarial runs / Countess Runs
20: Ancients Quest
20-25: Cows
25-40: Normal Baal
40-60: Nightmare Baal
60-8x+: Hell Baal
VI. Strategies
Amazons:
Bowazons: Bowazons are very easy in 99/100 duels. Just stand there and FOH the hell out of them. Notice zons have dodge [passive skill that gets annoying] so it may take a few to actually HIT them. But once you do most zons dont bother to stack all that lightning resists to nulify your conviction. Most bowazons are a one hit kill.
Javazons: Same as bowazons but a little riskier. This is one of the reasons why i recommend dumping points into smite. If they are too fast and you cant hit them with FOH in time for them to come up and hit you - smite and holy freeze takes any javazon out. But for pure FOH - run [teleport if enigma] and FOH.
Assassins:
Trappers: You will need some time to get good with them. Their mind blast skill [if they get it on you] will make it so you cant FOH. You - will definitely need teleport to get them with pure FOH. Stay on your toes and FOH. If you have a smite option [recommended to dump all extra points there] then put on holy freeze and run up to them and smite them. If your lightning resists are high enough the smite will do the trick since you can eventually get to them while running through their mind blasts.
All Melee Assassins: Just dont let them get too close to you. Stay a few yards out and just keep FOHing. If they use whirlind [granted from the chaos claw runeword], be careful. A good whirlwinding assassin can put some good damage on you.
Barbarians:
Whirlwind: Unless they have HELLA lightning resists - they are a JOKE to you. It is VERY easy to dodge those whirwinds - and just keep FOHing them. If they have hella resists - throw on your low damage smite option and see if it hurts them
Conc, Frenzy, Bezerk, etc barbs: Just run and FOH. simple with them. If you want to have a fun fair duel - smite them for the hell of it. Just DONT get hit by those bezerk barbs. Those hits Hurt.
Druids:
Melee druids: Simple duel. Most dont have very good frw and most cant teleport. Just stay away and tele. If you want to smite them you can.
Elemental druids: These are your WORST enemy. Their absorb armour skill completely makes your FOH WORTHLESS. I recommend just staying away from elemental druids. But if you want to at least try, run up to them and smite them for the hell of it.
Necromancers:
Necro Note: Without teleport you have a slim chance because of bone prison.
Bonemancers: Can be a very hard duel. You will need good skill and timing here. Those bone spears travel friggin fast. You need to be able to think about where they are going - and you need to go wherever they wouldnt expect it. Get Just close enough to get conviction on - then run and dodge spears and you try to get some FOH in there.
Bone Spirit: Not much different from bonemancers. JUST KEEP MOVING. If they have like 15 bone spirits following you - do NOT make that mistake of stopping to let them all hit you. It could very well take you out [i have this bad luck of having that last one kill me]. Also do not make the mistake of dodging on your feet only. They will bone prison you and sometimes you just aren’t ready to teleport out fast enough. Just keep moving and you will do fine.
Paladins:
Other Templars: These are fun duels. VERY fun as long as you have good lightning resists... With my set up, other FOHers heal me with my resists and absorb. Its very similar to a zealot vs zealot duel. Just stand and go. Its also very fun to throw some smites in there if they dont mind.
Melee paladins: Vs. all non-smiters, just run and FOH. If a good charger with a good weapon and good ar comes along, be careful. I recommend letting the charger come to you [that way you are standing still and you get 100% of your defense]. Vs zealots - just smite. Vs smiters - FOH them. If they can block your FOH this is a disadvantage since their smite wont be as good as theirs. Good luck with a very good smiter.
Hammerdins: With precision and patience this is a fairly easy duel. You need to let them come to you. DO NOT go to them unless you are ready to go through a maze of dodging hammers. Just stay back and wait for them to start going to you. When they do just FOH and they are gone. If they are liberators [charge/hammer] just wait for them to charge you. When they are charging - FOH them at will - but once those hammers start flying, stay away until the charging starts again.
Sorceresses:
Fire: Most fire sorcs are fireball / meteor. This duel is very easy with timing. If you can dodge a fireball and not run into a circular meteor timer on the ground - you should be ok. Vs. all those fireball sorcs with a LOT of fcr, do NOT teleport to them. Stay on your feet because it will be a hell of a lot easer not to make a mistake since most of them shoot in a semi-circular motion. Tip for fireball: Be off screen and start Running around them in a circle. They will start shooting you in the same semi-circular motion. The moment they try to shoot AHEAD of you so that you will run into them - charge [teleport if you have] to them from the opposite of the way you were running and if you can get there quick enough it is farely easy.
Lightning: Lightning sorcs have the ability to achieve hella lightning damage. Luckily for you, you are built to slay other templars so their lightning damage hardly hurts you with the right gear. Thunderstorm is easy and just get to a chain light sorc before she gets to you.
Cold: A fairly duel if they are a good blizard sorc. All other forms of cold should not be a problem. But as far as blizzard - think what he would be thinking [think ahead]. Try to guess where your opponent would drop their blizzard, and dodge them accordingly. This is a very hard duel to win, and if you dont have teleport since those blizzard sorcs tend to teleport a LOT more than all other sorcs, your chances will be little to none. Just dodge and hit.
[U]VII. FAQ
Q: Isnt this build very similar to a V/T?
A: No. A V/T focuses on smite and uses FOH as their secondary. This build is the opposite.
Q: Do I need to worry about faster cast rate?
A: No. There is a 1 second delay on Fist of Heavens - so dont worry about fcr.
Q: What are those items I just NEED to get?
A: Things you definately need to shoot for and arent too bad to get are a Herald of Zakurum, 10 combat gcs, and good lightning resists. If there is one elite item you can get, GET AN ENIGMA. An enigma is the heart and soul of a templar.
Q: Why smite if you cant put hardly any skills into it?
A: If someone spent the time and money to make your conviction do nothing, and resists your FOH completely, you need to be able to use another skill to kill them. My reason for choosing smite is you already have its only synergy maxed [holy shield], and a herald of zakurum already has very good smite damage.
Q: Does -% lightning resists from a rainbow facet jewel work with FOH?
A: Yes.
Q: How much lightning resist in hell will I need to negate Conviction?
A: 100 [-100 base in hell difficulty] + 75 [max without +% max] + 150 [conviction] = 325 needed lightning resist.
VIII. Conclusion and Closing Notes
This has my intentions for it to be my final draft Templar PvP Guide, and I hope you guys find it useful. Sorry for the extended time it took me to get it all edited. This guide is dedicated to Ragnrod… We miss YOU!
Thanks,
-ben
The thing about FoH is it's very one dimensional, you'll own anyone who doesn't absorb, and anyone who does will make you useless, I don't like to limit myself to that (for example, my medic has foh as a support skill, his dmg will never be that of a pure foh, but he can heal his team as well)
Nice guide though.
Nice guide. Pretty similar to my T/V build I'm dueling with now. Some comments/questions/suggestions:
1. Why suggest adding points to Smite when Fana gives more ED% per level and +% attack speed in addition? You already have 1 base smite.
2. Try dueling completely without vigor. I've found it unnecessary and that saves me 4 points (vigor + 3 prereqs). I use (non-vigor boosted obviously) charge to desynch and travel quickly.
3. I can't see Griffon's in the helmet choise section. IMO it's the best templar helmet.
4. If you use enigma breast plate and Thundergod (like me) you only have to add a few extra points in STR to be able to wield Upgraded Zakarum. Very nice smite damage boost.
5. Gloves: If you use hoto/high fana Bloodfist's 10 ias will lower your smite frames 8 -> 7. Awesome gloves. 30 FHR, 40 life, 10 ias *drool*.
6. Boots: Did you forget about Aldur's?
I'll read the dueling strategy section when I get home from work in about 10 hours. Good luck with your guide. :)

Folo:
1) I recomend that you use holy freeze with smite on this build. Since your fps will almost always be lower than theirs, why not lower Theirs?
2) Did I put emphasis on vigor? [forgets.?]
3) Something I disagree on but if a quick revision is necessary pre-sticky, then I will add it
4) ... ok
5) Quote: "-Crafted gloves with resists/stats/ias [good for smite, and who doesnt want those resists]" Bloodfists are nice but crafts can top them.
6) I dont think aldurs are a good choice when speaking in Templar
If you're dueling barbs, and they have stacked light resist, why do you use holy freeze? Doesnt that make them hit even mor instead of less like decrepify does?
Nice guide

nice guide. if you're smiting much at all you'll definitely want at least 1 pt in fanat. that way you can use either fanat or HF depending on the situation. versatility is where it's at. you don't want to be HF-smiting a WW barb for example.
also, didn't notice if you mentioned it, but this build should have 1 pt in meditation. meditation is a 1 pt wonder that can save you in longer duels where one or the other party is playing defensively. contra what you indicated, some hammerdins (like me :flip: ) do have 90-95%/350 stacked lr.

I'm going to use this guide, it's very nice but I just got 1 question:
Is a Hand of Blessed Light any good to use? It gives 4 to FoH and 2 to all other skills. It also gives +50 to defense and regenerate mana 15%.
I have a Wizspike but I just want to know if this is any good and usable.
Thanks in advance.

It could help for damage, but damage isnt the biggest factor in FOH. Its being able to take a lot of hits from all classes, and for offense its being able to effectively lower their resist. I Prefer wiz spike because that resist helps you become much more versitle, and its too sacrificial to get stacked resists elsewhere.

Great guide. It's inspired me to build a Templar of my own. I don't have the generally desired gear yet, but it's fun none the less. My question being - does the - 35% Lite Res on Crescent Moon affect FOH Damage? And subsequently, would it be worth using. Obviously there are other things generally preferred.. but just in the name of curiousity.

Yes, while FoH is a pretty cool skill, its too easily nulifed (4 Ptopaz shield anyone), although you can pick off most chars, FoHers have become so common that often, people will just Nerf your attack completely.

seems like non of you FoH-ers have ever encountered a skilled WW barb. Lets say duel is played in a private game. Lets say my barb has the light resist to nerf your aura(now I have +200 to all res, against a FoH-er I put the 4 topaz monarch). This automatically means that your primary attack is useless against my 5,4 k life barb with such light res. Then lets say you swith to smite. Surely it's unblockable but against a 5,4k life barb with 50% DR and the 1/6 penalty you dream that you stand ANY chance ??? Weeeeeeeeelllll let me tell you something. When you duel against a ww barb with godly items like mine and such skilled player like me, the ONLY thing that saves you from being erased even before you blink is your 75 % block. You say switch to smite and dodge the ww. Well even try to move when fighting against me and your 75% block is reduced to just 25% - meaning you are simply dead. I am skileld enough not to allow my ww to be dodged by anyone, have the AR too so my ww land at least 2-3 hits. And believe me its more than enough even against a 3k pala. Oh and one last thing - when you fight a skilled WW-er - DONT MOVE or your're dead. Ofcourse there's always a way to make you move.
Sure FoH-ers are very good chars and most of the time very good PK-ers but please dont underestimate WW barbs - you've simply never encountered one like mine.
To Mr. uber barb above it's called teleport...how do you expect to hit a pally tele'ing around with ww? also 20k defense and if you put on 50 dr gear helps too. A skilled dueler should rarely get hit with ww

It can't be more simple than that. Let me explain it to you. Let's say enigma tele is allowed even in a private game. A ww barb like mine has enough skill points to develop a second primary attack like zerk simply becouse ww has no synergies. From my enormous experience in dueling I can say it will take no more than 3 zerk hits to kill a 3+k life pala. Even with his 75% block I will land 3-4-5 succesfull zerks before his nerfed attack (FoH or smite - laughable) even begin to reduce my life bar.
I forgot to mention that in this case I will also use my Enigma tele - combined with the namelock - there you go:)

nice guide, pretty much exactly the same as my FoH pally but you missed of the best weapon of all for this build, a Silence runeword weapon.
+2 all skills, 75* all resists and 20 (or 30?) FHR %.
Best by far, in fact i just got an ist so hopefully vex wll come along soon too so i can get that on my pally :)

Actually a 6 facet weapon is prolly the best. +30/-30
I've been told that fcr is impotant to FoH even if it wont incrase the number of casts over time but rather to make the cast itself faster. What's everyones opinion about this?

il agree with fenris here abotu that 6 5-5 weapon and ill add that he can also use a 4 5-5 shield....have a socket kurast with +45 resists....only think u lose againt zhakarum is the +2 to conviction...if have JUST 25..and well u gonna have to switch if u want to smite;dd...other than that i think the dmg from 4 5-5 facets will be superior to the +4 skills...and all that not so becoz of the +30.....but mostly becoz of the -30 imo;dd ..whats more if they r die they do some serious dmg with conviction on....100-250 each most times..heh...imagine 11 facets*(100-250) dmg when u die:P
Nice guide. But I would suggest not even mentioning that "best choice" is a duped one, and evenmore name it because that will probably encourage people to use those dupes, leading then to a dupe support. Just my 2€cents, anyway :)

Ok... Highfather, you need a blast of the modesty pills I think.
To get insane AR enough to hit a 20K pala regularly, you have to sacrifice something. That something will 9/10 times be skills or resists, meaning, damage WILL be getting done.
Another thing is I will walk through a BoTD Barb's WW path if I ****ing well want to. I ain't going to run, so my block is 75% and my defence is 20k. Even higher if I put Defiance on while you were WW-ing and switched to Conviction just to blast you (Enormous experience and you thought we had to stand still? No, we just can't run numbnuts) Good luck getting through man, when you fall down dead, I'll be laughing. Or teleporting off so you can't hit me. Get it? A FoH pala is not limited to standing and getting close. I would wager my FoH pala against your barbarian any day of the week sunshine.
Another thing is, I'd say bugger Smite, pump up Conviction to as high as you can get it. That way, the idiot FoH users in Pubbie games can't overly hurt you if you take precautions. A level 38 Conviction is tremendous, I'd say that ~99.9% of FoH paladins out there will never best that.

seems like non of you FoH-ers have ever encountered a skilled WW barb.
So, without your teleporting ability, he can easily outrun you. What's it going to be, 50% dr or teleport. Unless you happen to be using verdungo's, gaze, then enigma and your four ptopaz shield. With that, you lose a lot of AR, the other good mods arreats gives, and a lot of max LR. So, with at best, only 80%, he can still do damage to you, a good chunk I might add... slowly, but surely.
Weeeeeeeeelllll let me tell you something. When you duel against a ww barb with godly items like mine and such skilled player like me, the ONLY thing that saves you from being erased even before you blink is your 75 % block. You say switch to smite and dodge the ww. Well even try to move when fighting against me and your 75% block is reduced to just 25% - meaning you are simply dead.
... Unless he teleports or... walks? Shift charge?

Oh and one last thing - when you fight a skilled WW-er - DONT MOVE or your're dead. Ofcourse there's always a way to make you move.
Right, yet you aren't skilled enough to know that dodging ww is dependent on your opponent more than it is you. And skilled enough to know that walking (or shift charge) gives you 75% chance to block while moving. And skilled (or rather stupid) enough to say that an opponent facing you should never move.
Sure FoH-ers are very good chars and most of the time very good PK-ers but please dont underestimate WW barbs - you've simply never encountered one like mine.
No good dueler would underestimate any dueling characters. But then, no good dueler would ever say the things you did either.

Im not going to lie to them. The next best then would be the legit best eh?
Here is some suggestion.
Assuming that person in PvP have at least 85% resist displayed +what ever is hidden we could be talking about 150+ stacked resistances and as such as PvPer you must use as much -% enemy light resist as possible. So instead of shako I highly recomend use griphon eye socketed with lighting facet (same thing you need for HOZ or alterantively use 4 socketed sheild with 4 perfect lighting facets. Instead of HOTO best choice would be +3 combat skill/+3 fist of heaven/+what ever modes you like/socketed with as many lighting sockets as you can squeeze in it.
You also fogot to mention 1 point wonders -namely Meditation and Redemption - this 2 skills essential for any casting paladin
More thougts about gear - boots - well this probably one of few spots there unique's are cannt come even close to rare/crafted/imbued one. Personally I still looking for godly version with FRW/FHR/20+ resist all/life type of boots
Amulet well fist of haven is combat skill that not affected by any auras (aside convition and only till you hit cap) so I'd suggest go for magic +3 combat skill amulet with some nice secondary mode (mana probably best idea)
In conclusion - I have FOHer built in progress and havent yet come to certain conclusion about FCR but subjectively I feel a lot more comfortable and efficient then broke mark 75FCR

FCR = no. just forget about it. Unless you are packing and enigma and plan to teleport, its a no-go. But even WITH an enigma, you dont need to worry about it. being a caster you will get some fcr at elast somewhere...
Also whats this mana you speak of? Your not a war cry barb or a nova sorc, leave it alone.

20-05-2004, 14:19
just thinking of boosting your dmg alone when vs a FOH variant will indeed get you owned.
it is too easy to get 95% LR + 40 absorb and have 3.5k+ FOH dmg on V/T with 49% DR and 350% LR all at the same time.
Mana is most painfull aspect of developing templar at low lvls you litterally have to stop after every 3-4 kills to harvest mana with Redemption. Its annoing as hell. Once your mana pool overgrow ~300 things get a bit easy. FCR - yes its danm important for PvP - yestoday managed kill fireball sorc with 90LR+T-god who was 10 lvl above me just because I never stoped for long enouth to be targeted with her valley of fireballs (@105FCR btw) or been teleported on the top. My FOHs barely scratched her but eventurally I won
Let me elaborate where from all this Lit facet things comes from ...
I played a bit FO/CL clone of sorcs with max sinergy and all +% to lit skill damage items lighting damage do ~7-25000 damage per arch. Major problem not absorb or resist but rather very low minimum damage on arch and as such ~1/3 hits lol will heal opponents with lit absorb instead of harming. On countary FoHer have several advantages over FO/CL clone. First FOHer have very high minimum damage. Second is conviction aura that give instant -150% to enemy resistance ... which is not good enouth specially if person have absorb (I doubt that many are rich enouth to afford 2X20% wisps thou).
if person have 95LR after conviction it be -55%. With Griphon eye (for crist sake lets assume perfect one) you can get extra -25% (with lit facet). So you need pick elsewhere ~-20% lit (4 more Lit facets) get maximum efficiency from your FOH (resistance capped at -100%).
Now we are talking about 2X actual damage of your FOH (assuming that you got with conviction + gear -195% to enemy resist). Someone mathematically shown that with maximum lighting absorb you can negate ~6900 lighting (already with PvP correction) damage - anything above that will hurt. From here aboviouly you need have FOH damage well over 5K and -195% enemy resist to achieve same efficiency as hammer or if you stop by only -150% enemy resist then you need ~9K FoH damage which arent excatly easy task to achieve
Mana is most painfull aspect of developing templar at low lvls you litterally have to stop after every 3-4 kills to harvest mana with Redemption. Its annoing as hell. Once your mana pool overgrow ~300 things get a bit easy.
Use zeal while leveling. Zeal is a prereq for foh anyway. Just because you make a templar for pvp doesn't mean you have to play it pvm.

What I said is with 95% LR and 40 absorb, that is T-god + LoLo Crown or T-God + Lo SS & Lo Shako. You can reduced a 4706 Lightning Dmg attack to zero. So 4706 is the break to hit for in Pal vs Pal dueling.
What I also say it is... against 1-11k ( optimal trapist ), the average dmg you will recieve per hit is about 9-10 considering the dmg is normal distributed.
but if you slap on all the absorb gears like Sabre + T-God + 95% LR, only lightning sorc (1-45000) can damage you.
once again I stress the non-importance of Conviction, because the builds that have 25 Conviction will not have enough pts to put into Charge, BH or Smite. If the build also choose to use massive Facets, they will lose the DR%, so what if you can force your opponent to use 4 ptopaz shield? a mere loss of 8% DR at the expense of losing 20+% DR from your side is not a health investment.
if conviction works like 1.09, I would have praised it heavenly. it is just not so good now. in 1.09, for serious dueling, I was only considering 44 conviction to be sufficient... not less... that tell you how pale 1.10 conviction + facets's -res looks now.

To whomever asked me about Conviction in surplus of lvl 25...
Well, conviction lvl 25 gives the -150 cap of resists, you are most certainly right there.
But.
If you duel in Public Duelling games, like I do, you invariably come across dickhead FoH paladins with Enigma and all the other crap, HotO and what have you, with 10 of those sexy Lionbranded GC's of whatever. Say he has lvl 26 conviction and you have lvl 25... Well, your Con will not affect him, while his will affect you. And he will kill you.
Now say you have a paladin with lvl 27 con and you see the same dickhead FoH paladin in a game Nking people and generally being a pain in the arse. YOu walk out and he FoH's you... and resists willing, you lose 6 life. Your con sits on him and you drop a FoH. God willing, he loses 1000.
In FoH vs FoH duels, ever more common in Pubbie PK games, you need the highest lvl conviction there to nullify everyone elses. You have lvl 40 Conviction - in a pubbie game - and no FoH paladin will ever kill you.
Use zeal while leveling. Zeal is a prereq for foh anyway. Just because you make a templar for pvp doesn't mean you have to play it pvm.

Look I used zeal to get to lvl 30 (btw much like for maximum damage hammer I suggest put every lvl 1 point into holy shock untill lvl 30) from this point you need to get somehow up in lvls right? zeal work (with not zealot type char) ok untill ~normal baal, Templar who using zeal in NM looks same way like camel on north pole ... very original and not practical. Point of creation of this templar was proving point that templar can be great for PvM as well as long as I can do 1 short 1 kill damage. From this point I need maximize damage FOH damage and make sure that not a single light immune monster will able stop me (and lighting immunity easiest to break). I will use on a switch wand with lower resist charges lvl 2 which should garanty maximum efficency of my attack
In other words I am looking for building maximum damage templar who capable of braking any immunities....

Templar in a sence is caster not melee and as such you are not looking to stand ground and taking physical (or/and elemental) damage - on countary - you should be on move all the time (teleport or run) and keep hitting your foe with FOHs. FOH have formidable range of attack and as such very easy to use in conjuction with name lock. With hit&run tactic FCR comes to play very handly because you wont stop and litterally able drop FOHs while you on a run

Sorry I have to disagree. Why just forget about the defensive approach. You think a good offensive templar is ugly? See one with 20,000 defense, 2,500+ life, and 80+ resist. Thats ugly.

I think we agree on one thing - templar in PvP can be played in a different way equally efficient. My approach more close to "glass cannon" yours more likely 'siege catapult". And its actually great that templar built allow such great deviation in gear and tactical approach.
My templar still in developing (main char for now hammerdin who working hard his arse off to get last rune for enigma :flip: ) - none the less in NM 4-5 players game I still able keep pace 1 shot - 1 kill in 8 players game its like 2 shot-1 kill. While during normal stage I was run with any aura and yet be perfectly efficient in NM - conviction already mandatory

you can't formulate your strategy based entirely upon dueling experiences because most of them have sub-optimal gears.
To make a effective PvP buide, you must based your entire strategy by dialectic methods. So ask yourself, is this tactic effective against a character with perfect gear? If not, formulate a new tactic...
Truth is more important than winning against imperfect opponents.

would crescent moon be a viable weapon choice? the -35% enemy resist looks very enticing. wouldnt be too bad to hit with it either lol. what do u think of it?
I disagree with your choice of helm btw. Griffons Eye anyone? And for weapon; i really thinkg HoBL outdoes a Wizzy; the extra damage from my experience as a FoHer
the problem would be resists, if ur dueling another foh pala/blizz/orb sorc, which have alot of -res. u would want to stack ur resists, besides if ur using enigma, the faster cast/mana can come in handy :)
for a foh weap tho HobL is decent, tho one of the best ones would be a silence weapon, or insanely rich 6 x rbf phase, 5 x rbf +3 foh scepter.
thats why i keep a wizzy for duels like that in my stash; btw if i had a vex i would save an ist and just make a hoto

I use a 5/4 faceted wiz spike. Its best of all worlds. +5% on the damage part, -5% on the -% part, and HUGE resist that can give you 150% more choice in items without having to um everything or chose cancel out some items mainly because they dont have that 15 resist you need...
Ehein, bloodfists are a good option. I used godly crafted gloves I made but I do like bloodfists.
AznAvatar, a crescent moon is a Descent option. I tried all possible FOH weapons and I found that a faceted wiz spike is the best option. I tried crescent, wiz, hoto, hobl, and even a 6 facet phase [borrowed it]. I still support my facet wiz. Was the best, still the best.
Tanatus, I found first-hand that: defensive templar > offensive. I aint just saying it, I found it out for myself. And I mean by item choice, not by tactics.

Look I already many time told you that using HOBL or HOTO instead of wizardspike give you much more flexilbility in gear by saying opposite things you are missleading ppl. One last time
HOTO - 3 skills 30-40 resist +15% mana *20 regenerate life 40FCR
Wiizard spike - 75 resist +15% mana +1XX mana
To ofset resistance loss from wizard spike you need merely either 7-9 shimmering small charms or 3 shimmering grand charms
To ofset skill loss you need 3 combat charm + 3 offensive aura charms
Simple math - with wizard spike you must sacrofice 9 more spaces in inventory compare to HOTO. I also want to point out that with wizard spike you will have 45% less deffence then with HOTO (hint +3 skill for HS will add you +45% deffence)
Buttom line wizard spike give you a lot less flexibility with gear choice then HOTO

Tanatus,
Ok we've been argueing about this in about 2-3 threads. Lets put it this way. Your build is offensive. My build is defensive. People can chose which route they want to chose. I've personally tried both and found defensive was more promising. I found that missing a few skills is worth being able to take more hits on This particular build because this build is based on -% resist. I also found that if you stress one of the three [the three being dmg, -% resist, and defense in general], it makes you weak to some people. I like to be balanced with my builds so I can kill everyone, and not have to worry about some. The builds I make have enough all resist to make me able to take around 10 hits from a very strong blizzard. I also had 20,000+ defense on my templar. Your build is a different take than mine. People can chose the one more applealing, but I found my take to be more effective, since I have tried both.
Please if you would like to argue, PM me to spare others.
Friend that's the whole point ...
wizardspike give you less deffensive power then HOTO...
I am not agrueing with fact that stacking resistance good - yes it is, hell I do it myself. We are arguing about ways how to do this. I am not agruing about -% to light resist is good - it is - more over I was showing why griffin eye socketed with lit facet better then shako. The whole point of my arguments is that gear you are suggesting not helping with deffensive power on counter - it make it weaker.
You have inventory and you are free to stack it with 20life/5resa charms or 17mana/5resa if like those more or 5resa/5fhr.

k guys need some help on mine, i seen a foh'er yesterday clear a room, and thought to myself hey that looks fun, here is wut i'm thinking for gear
hoto
griffon(light facet)
maras
enigma
hoz
2 soj or 1 soj and 1bk
boots still kinda up there kinda thinking trecks for the vit/stre/fhr
belt not sure
gloves not sure
the reason i'm not realy sure on the belt and glove is cause i wana hit 75%fcr right now i got 65% short 10 so i need to get it from my equipment, so either use t-gods and say trangs for stacked cr's or use arachnid and forsties for more mana. And i'm thinking like 6 pally combats anni and rest 5fhr sc's resists charms and vit charms! does that look good? And any and all suggestions would be great. And about hat smite thing after getting conviction to lvl 25(with gear, are u sure this is all i need?) maxing foh, and holy shock, and holy shield, should i dump them into smite or just keep that 1 point in it and dump rest into fant?Or skip that all and dump them into defiance for even more def? And wut should i make my enigma in? breast plate for base vit? or Dusk shroud for more def? Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated tx guys!
Actually with FOH you dont really need very high FCR (spell have recast delay) rather high FHR. Your gear is perfect for PvM (well looks good imo) - major problem that for PvP you'll need overcome huge resistance and lighting absorbance as well - unless you will develope secondary attack for those who stacked resistance you might consider enhance your gear with more lighting facets

i just join public games, and this is a pvp build, so i need the fcr to tele in switch to convic cast foh then tele away before i get hit to much. so i'm thinking now get bloodfist gloves, use arach and jsut swtich when i need the absorb.

Belt - use the tgods. Arachnid isnt for this build.
Gloves - Get some crafts or rares with some mods you like, like maybe a lot of defense, resist, etc.
Use dusk for your enigma
Go for all 10 combat gcs, then you can do fhr/res on the bottom with anhi.
Dump the rest into smite and use a level one holy freeze with it. If you cant go fast, let them go slow - and it makes your smite stronger at the same time.
And yes, clearing a game with FOH is so much fun. I cant even count how many times I went into a full game of 8, and got each and every one to leave without me nking them. It was just way to cool.
I REALLY don't get why you would use tgods. The only other Light damage characeter i would fear would be the CB sorceresses but i've seen ONE good one in my entire time. Versus another FoH simply switch out 2 or 3 combat gcs for an offensive GC [i only have 2 pally cgcs to switch out but it does the trick]. If you like the life get Verdungos.

but i i don't use arachnid i can't hit the 75%fcr hoto is 40% helm is 25% i'm missing 10%.
Oh I see where you comming from but! as I said for FOH you dont need FCR and as a such I suggest you have different gear on a switch wizardpsike+lidless wall (50+20) with arachnid belt you be at 90FCR (10FPC brake point is 75)
About rings-belt. T-god wont save you from trappers attack nor from anyother foher with higher conviction then yours. The only way beat another foher is have higher conviction - so take advice of poster above - get in stash some offensive aura GC (those not that expansive). Rings vs. trapper/foher - you need wisp protector.
Btw type of enigma irrelavant - get the highest deffence that fit for your str that's all
If you using griffin-hoto combo you might consider getting crafted amulet with +2skills/15-20FCR/what ever secondary mode you like - dont quote me on that but I think to craft such kind of ammi you need char lvl 93+ - that's only in case you dont want use switch combo wizarspike/lidless

Who is to say the other mods on tgods arent good? Its a wonderful belt without the lightning mods... Take a look at the atribute adds, hella defense, etc. I really am going to push you use that.
but i i don't use arachnid i can't hit the 75%fcr hoto is 40% helm is 25% i'm missing 10%.
Either use a 10% fcr ring with mana or use a wiz spike. I used the wiz spike, cause I found that 3 skills from hoto isnt life or death. I faceted my wiz.
Btw type of enigma irrelavant - get the highest deffence that fit for your str that's all
NO. You should be basing your stats on your enigma, not getting one based on your stats. The lowest str the better in MOST cases, but I like to use a dusk because it has very low strength requirements [77] and still gives you hella defense [1100 or so]. Any str requirements lower will take away a lot of defense.
cowtestickles
25-06-2004, 19:57
so the defense is better then the points u could put in vit that u save from stre by using a breast plate one?
edit: and can rares spawn 20%fhr again? Also i can get my hands on a caster ring with 20 stre, but i think thats pretty much only usefull mod, should i use that over one with mana? cause so far its looking like i'm not going to have any mana adding items, unless of course on my other finger i use a soj.
Look let me elaborate a little more about stats
First and foremost you need 89 str to be able equip HOZ w/o many clicks on copse - nothing more frustrating then losing part of your equip just because you was not able pick it in 1 click. From here - HOZ grant you +20str so now you are at 109, shako +2 to all attribute - now you at 111 - which already cover next armor from elite type - dusk shroud, wurmhide, scarab husk, archon plate and wirefleece. If you are using Mara you can add +5 more now you at 116 I'll assumin you are using anni charm as well which give you at very least +10 to stats so now you are at 126 - which expand your capability of using elite armor up to great haurbek. Out of all those armors archon can have highest deffence (and so to speak only sacred armor can go up to 602). But all in all you should be looking for 1200+ enigma at very least. Every extra 100 deffence net you ~1.5-2K deffence after HS bonus and yes deffence IS better.. let me elaborate it
Nowdays duels is all about 2-3 hits +-60-70HP that you will get from those extra vita points wont save your sorry arse but extra 2-3k deffence might
T-gods is nice belt dont get me wrong but as I said you must untilize most chances to increase your damage output and resistance piercing abilities ... w/o sacroficing much of your duralubility.
Arachnids have higher deffence then T-gods, Arachnids increase damage of your FOH, give extra 20FCR and ! uncrease your mana pool. T-gods give you so usefull lighting absorb, a lot str and a lot vita - so choice is yours here but I'd stick with arachnids unless I face in duel another FOHer or trapper

Tanatus.
My principle is use dusk enigma, or dont use an enigma [for templars]. It the best allround enigma. And about the arachnids, +1 skills doesnt make or break you, and fcr isnt something people should worry about. The belt is NOT a templar belt. Tgods is just better.
Look im starting to get sick of you posting your ideas that all go against mine --- in My guide. If you would like to make a guide of your own and answer peoples questions there, I think thats great. I wouldnt have a problem with it if everything you said wasnt against how I work and how this guide on the first page is meant to be. Please just stop.
Wvx i think this is a bit rude of you to just tell Tanatus to shut up if not arrogant. People are asking for help and it just might be that a second opinion will help them even if it contradicts yours because well although this may be hard to grasp, he may be right and you wrong.
He should be welcome as a fellow templar player to debate about your guide in your thread. FCR is something templars should worry about as they should be teleporting if they are rich. A common setup is hoto/griffons/enigma/magefists and by using tgods you lose 2skills [one bkring/soj for a 10FCR] which can be up to 600 damage lost. Since he wants to "clear out pubbies" this would be important
If you like the "mods" on the belt of the tgods, well Verdungoes beats it without the lightning which you don't need as i explained in most cases. You can't say 15dr/120 life is hurtful [tgods only gives off 60 life as 20 strength is unwanted]

I dont mind him expressing himself, I just dont like it when he posts the same thing more than once that contradicts whats I advise in my guide.
Also, I love verdungos. I have one on switch for ww barbs with enough AR to eat through my 20K defense. I just like to use my tgods more. Doesnt mean I dont have one for different scenarios, and sorry for not clearing that up earlier.

To auto-aim, i.e. shift click and hit someone, you need to have your mouse cursor in the general direction/vicinity that they are in. Say an oppenent is to the right of you, if you shift click to your left you will not hit them, yet if you shift click to your right, somewhere in their proximity your foh will auto-aim to them.
As far as i know 1 point in fana increases your smite damage more than one point in smite. Someone correct me if im wrong on that. and fana also gets your ias higher as well, with 35% ias from fana your smite fps will be a heck of a lot better.
wvx_leader_returns

The thing about fanat is its at the bottom of the list, hence wasting a few more points for it's pre-requisites. If you want fanat that bad, you can spend those points. I personally just did it the lazy way, used holy freeze with smite, and just made smite as high as I could get it. I'm not too sure if that was a mistake, but I never noticed it in the long run because my smite could kill some wind druids [templars worse nightmare, and smite aint too easy either with how much life they have].
Also, shift-and clicking towards someone Usually doesnt work with FOH. You really get lucky. I just shift 100% of the time and usually shift and hit them right on. I find auto-aiming with the skill FOH isnt nearly possible. Now remember that that point of advice was thinking back a month or two when I used to still play ;) - so please shoot me if I'm wrong and correct me - but I'm pretty sure I'm right.
you might want to consider making "beast" in good caddi - by doing so you save points for fanastism...
in other words make a switch beast/upped HOZ for smiting. Beast give you 40IAS built-in + lvl 9 fanastism aura then equiped

Hi!
I have a couple if questions about my templar pvp vause this is my first one....
I have this gear:
Shako, Enigma-dusk shroud, zaka, wiz, hoto, bugged siggard, thundergod, waterwalk, wisp projector, bal kathos, maras, 10 combal skillers, 10 5 res+20life sc (removing one of them and add anni instead).... I still need gloves, but i think im going with bloodfist until i get some rare or crafted....
to the questions:
I also have 3 light rainbow facet's.... U think I should use all of them? in f.ex. wiz, shako and zaka? or do i need to use other items??
and... what's the dex for maximun blocking for zaka?
And... I think I did something really stupid.... I'm lvl 43 and I have 60 str without any item bonus. I think bugged siggard will give 25, a hitload from enigma, 20 for zaka, 5 from maras, did i miss something? So I have far too much str right? How do u think that will affect my char? Will i have enough life, considering im using 9 20 life charms and bul kathos?
And... How does all of this look to u?
Thx in advance and thx for the great guide that made me wanna make a templar pvp....

As far as the facets - it really depends on what your stacked resists are... If you have enough LR to be able to maintain that 85% LR in hell, then the facets are a great idea. If your resists arent where they should be - UM runes are the answer.
and... what's the dex for maximun blocking for zaka?
I'm sure I put the max block formula in there... If you didnt come across it look for it - and if its too hard to find please tell me and I will have a mod make it stand out more.
And... I think I did something really stupid.... I'm lvl 43 and I have 60 str without any item bonus. The str thing shouldnt be too much a problem. If the money allows - try to get a CTA for the switch to boost your life. Oak sage on the whisp also helps a bunch.
It looks fine to me... feel free to post anymore questions. Also what is your resist in hell? How much stacked?

seems like non of you FoH-ers have ever encountered a skilled WW barb.
Well there is a simple fix there, first you walk, second a couple points in veng will negate that seeing as how your main aura is conviction. AKA charge, smite, vengeance rinse lather repeat. Not even a barb can max all 3 elements with enough absorb to negate that. Guess you've yet to duel a versatile pally in a NO-teleport duel. You are so vulnerable while ww with a lock a charge will stunlock you. A smite will further that long enough for a vengence shot. With teleport you Might have a prayer. Both with teleport the first with lock wins. Your defense is also -90% with conviction so a hit is inevitable. OOps you get a chill from vengence guess that slows you some. Factor in you have max cold and lightning still have fire and physical to deal with. If you find a pally with something as simple as Tgods and Crescent moon on a weapon scrap your immune to lightning. Your barb is toast!
this round is on me :drink:
for pally lovers :drink: :buddies:
Let me repeat once more - if you dont have lighting absorb no matter what your resistance are - you are toast. In PvM gear my templar have -225% lighting resist to enemy toss here -100% for hell... So to just counter my attack you need have at very least 400 lighting resist (say 370 because of Anya quest) but if you get ~40% lighting absorb nothing much I can do about you
P.S. conviction dont do a **** about deffense - because its counts toward end not toward base aka if I have say +500% deffense via iron skin/shout after conviction (lets say -90% deffense) I will still have +410% deffense.. Its other question that smite bypass any deffense

Calling someone without absorb 'toast' is a little over-done wouldnt you say?
The point is: most people dont bother to get that much -% because its just overdoing the damage aspects of the character. If you can get that and still have hella resists, defense, dr, life, etc - then thats great. With all NL items on I had -155 or -160 depending on the opponent, and that was plenty.
If your opponents bother to get rid of that, it shouldnt be too hard to get another 70 or so eh?
And btw... I did fine with hella resist and no % absorb [just a tgods] - but then it got annoying have them think they can do something with like 5 life each FOH, so I got a whisp and it healed me. I reccomend tgods overall and I found that to be completely workable with the correct amount of stacked resist.
And please... lets not fight over the arachnids/tgods thing. We're still in my guide

BerBerCOA + Dungo (or string)
Second thing wizardspike 50FCR vs HOTO 40FCR plus as a FOHer you dont really need much FCR anyway

He did? I shall have to read that, can someone post the link? From the rather numerous tests me and some friends conduced we deduced that FoH, the animation itself, was split into 2 segments, the second of which being affected (slightly) by casts per frame rate, the actual delay itself isn't effected, simply the time it takes to cast. Only certain FCR breakpoints effected it, typically those ending in an even number.
Secondly, FCR Break points are always useful as far as tele'ing is concerned, how else are you going to beat 125 FCR Bone Necro? use www.stratorgy.com is you want to consult the break point tables for all the character classes amongst other things.
Thirdly (lol), WVX could you post the stats of your Templar? the skill layour is achingly obvious but if you've made any differences, feel free to share

:grrr: More levels for more points in DEX to achieve Max block...

I would have to say my favorite way to get fhr cheap is through second mods on combat charms. I found that a lot of times people sell combat charms with fhr at the same price as if they were plain cause they think that they are worth the same cause the second mod isnt life. Course this was a couple months ago - but thats the easiest way I did it. I also had classic rare boots with fhr so that helped. If you'd like I can look up some good templar items with fhr and point them out for you.

Oh, Forgot about the good old Lion branded charm of balance, however on Europe realm these go for like 1HR each.
Thank you for the offer, however I do have a reasonable idea of FHR items (www.battle.net/diablo2exp)
Instead, what do you think is a reasonable BP for a Templar to aim for?

Also, shift-and clicking towards someone Usually doesnt work with FOH. You really get lucky. I just shift 100% of the time and usually shift and hit them right on. I find auto-aiming with the skill FOH isnt nearly possible.
It's not hard at all. You can shift click pretty far away (maybe half a screen?) and hit the guy. Maybe you should test it. Your first statement is totally false. It's works a LOT.
Uh, no. You don't need lightning absorb to beat templar. 40% lightning absorb and there's not much you can do? Let's say you have a 8k foh. That's pretty high, so let's cut it with the penalty. 1333.33 damage. Now let's cut it off 95%. 66.66 damage per foh, with no absorb. With 1500 life, it'll take about 22-23 foh's to kill you. If you don't regenerate life. Or you don't kill him by the time it takes him to cast that many foh's.
By responding to this guide, I hereby understand that I will not flame the templar build or that it can be nullified with enough lightning resist. My post will be productive, not deductive. I understand that if a problem with the guide needs to be changed - I will address the problem without letting my ego get in the way.
That's one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Mod, I was talking more about blindly clicking in that direction, and yes even if you can see them. I found that if you didnt name-lock them it wasnt near 100% of the time to hit them. Of course this could have been a modem thing or just a lack of testing, cause I never tested to say - i just had experience and was trying to explain.
Dimoak, I'm glad you liked it ;) In my earlier versions i had a few posts [and pms] that had Nothing to do with the guide and just talked about how with enough resist a templar is nothing and how it isnt viable at all [blah blah] - and I wanted to get rid of em. lol

I like how people say with 4socket sheilds with ptopaz's will negate a Fister. But its the same with any caster. You can negate most to any character. I'm building this guide now for PvP, I'm not out there to own everyone. Just to have fun. People get to serious about this. My 2cents worth

No, it's actually quite close 100%, provided you are in range of the autolock, you click close enough (if they were on top of you you can't really click to the sides...) and monsters won't get in the way. And yes DRS that is true.

Yeah its true but no it doesnt make that much of a difference. I always had a lvl 25 conviction and with a good setup you wont notice the difference acuse I never did until I heard it on this forum. I also faced and beat some templars with lvl 35+ convictions. There are ways to beat them and its a lot more smarter and convenient to use your skills on a skill that will help you kill more than just one specific character class, even if it is your own. Since I was a T/V I had a weak smite and with my hella resist their higher level conviction didnt even matter, so it was Still a battle of resists and if we both healed eachother than a few smites will take the cake and the ear is yours.

Cool, if I've got a weird V/T, T/V thingy. I guess T/V as its something like 6.2k FoH and 2k Smite lol.
hmmm..I think resists on my rare amu/circlet/silence/zaka/salv should negate FoH, ye?
Oh, I beat an ownage wind druid with my FoH'er :O...took a while though :(

If you stand and foh toward the bottom of your screen and someone vigor charges right past that spot (near it as well), he will be hit. Speed isn't a factor.
taking the synergy for FOH in account, is it better to max Holy Bolt (+15%) than Holy Shock (+7%)???
Module88

HS first. HB only if you plan to specialize in killing undead. ...
im sorry but can you explain the logic behind that? im new to the game
Module88
08-09-2004, 04:43
Well HS increases the lightning damage done by foh. No doubt this is helpful if you have conviction, even against lightning "immunes." However, HB as a synergy ONLY increases the HB damage from foh. Therefore, if you don't plan to be killing a lot of undead creatures, the HB synergy is of little use.
WVX why no comment on the conviction bug. vs. other FoH it can make your life a lot easier.
so what you are saying is that HS increase the damage of FOH but HB doesnt?
so what you are saying is that HS increase the damage of FOH but HB doesnt?
Holy bolt increases the damage to undead from the holy bolts that originate from a FoH strike, which is useless in PvP, the only real use being vs. commandomancers possibly.

Yes but you didn't put it in your guide and it's a big deal. It's not like 1 skill point is a waste to negate anyone's lvl 25 convic. And yeah..it can be a big factor in tvt duels.

No no no, FoH is not relyt good in duelling, yah its good vs sorc's, ONLY !
foh doesnt worrks vs players that using MINIONS !! (necros, asasins, druids..)
when u foh an asa, u just foh its shadow, or cheap merc from normal.....
FoH good vs sorc, sorc's cant run from FOH, even se tele, foh hits her, if u r noob, FOH is not 4 ya, try using asasin or bowzone (if good stuff) smiter useful too ! (specialy in mele)

I'm gonna make sure and think before I post - cause some days its not a good day to eat breakfast... and others its not a good day to get banned.
With a druid, yeah if he has minions and teleports it makes foh unhittable to him. With necros its a pain but the minions usually cant take any hits so you have a chance. With assassins if you are only hitting their merc or shadow you have issues with aiming.
Of course foh is good against sorcs. Its also good against any character without good lightning resist. What a concept.
Before you diss an entire build, make sure you do this little thing... You may have heard of it from a friend. Its called think.

OMG! FoH only good for sorcs???
The class of your opponent pretty much doesnt matter, his gear does.
"if u r a n00b, FoH is not for you"
Playing a Foher basicly looks like "click your opponent, run, click your opponent, run" there are many builds that require much more skill to win than just "click and run".

Agreed Astral.
Against summoners I like to fire off a few FoH's into the foray, let the holy bolts take on the skellies, also alternativly and against things like wind druids a lvl 20 Holy Shock Aura with enough +skills has a deadly range with very nice damage, one, two hits max and bye bye wolves, though if your opponent has a bear thats pretty discerning.
Myself I duel in a league which prohibits re-summoning and minion stacking teleporting etc etc.

Since engima adds defense rather than adding %defense its not necessary to make it in the highest defense armor. Most duellers use an enigma breast plate and relies on the str boost from it to put on the rest of the gear. The highest armor Id put it in would probably be a Mage Plate.
Enigma Breast Plate: 800 defense, 30 str req
Engima Mage Plate: 1k defense, 55 str req.
Enigma Archon Plate: 1.2k defense, 107 str req.
Enigma Dusk Shroud: 1.15k defense, 77 str req.
If you dont need that extra life a higher defense armor wouldnt hurt, but in pvp u need all the life you can get.

If you gonna use FOH+Smite - wouldnt Heavens Light +3 skill / 20 ias / 33 CB / etc / and then socket with 2 x 15% ias/15 res all jewels be a good choice ? So you have +3 skill and 30% res all (like a HOTO) and you get a nice 50% ias+ 33% CB for smite? And what about a one skill wonder in fana for when you are smiting? (with all the +skills it would end up as a lvl 15-20 fana)

why don't you suggest 5x facet'd +3 foh scepter? its really strong and you can get res with maras+herald+high res rare boots+20 life/5 res sc's.... no huge stack, but it works for dueling anything other than foh palas since trappers cant do -light res and other light chars dont lower it very much....
also, i have a way to beat ele druids/necros w/ summons.... if you use a high damage, high -res equip, you can forget the smite and still be successful... you can get -220 resist (with 20/20 shield, but i think hoz w/ facet is better @ -205 res) w/ convic... also what this allows you to do is to leave holy shield and smite at base level 1... if you do this, you can max resist lightning (a synergy for holy shock AND gives +10 max light res meaning 85 base res, add tgods and ur 95)... now... when you start to duel a druid/necro w/ summons, get close to them with HOLY SHOCK which can kill their minions.... once the druid loses its summons, convic/foh it... should kill their armor in 1 to 2 hits and, since this type of pala tends to have about 8.3k dmg foh/-205 res, you can do some major damage to win :)
