I'm grading a quiz right now. One of the questions read:

Suppose a graph of a line with slope 50 indicates the relationship between the number of hours Lynn has been driving and the number of miles she is from her starting point. Assuming that Lynn is driving at a steady speed, what does the slope mean in this situation?

The answer, apparently, is "It means that Lynn drives carefully."

Hahah...

Just to double check: The slope m is the rate of change for how far Lynn has been traveling write? That is her velocity right?

I'm not large or hairy enough to look like Chris Farley but here it goes.

That's correct. Peels off shirt.

You should keep a collection of these kind of answers and then post them at the end of the year to the class (omitting names).

Actually, now that I have thought more about this. She is absolutely right in saying that the woman was driving very carefully. I mean, it said that the woman was driving at a constant speed and that is very very hard to do. You would have to be extremely careful to be able to maintain constant speed. Personally, I can't do it, always veering 1 or so mph off my target.

Of course, the woman could have been using cruise (if the car had cruise), which would be cheating.

It depends, though. If she's doing a steady 50mph through residential neighborhoods and playgrounds and stuff then she's probably killed several toddlers and elderly people using walkers. It's a good attempt at an answer, but needs more background information.

[edit] oops, i actually thought I was in the "Opposite of Pro" thread since it was a link to a test ... either way, both threads deal with kind of the same thing
