I can't seem to damage him...
I've tried all my 70+ chars, except my sorc (who has crap resists)... No luck...

btw, he's in cold plains. I have to go out for 1/2 hr, so am afk in game for now.

I was afk, I could not damage him...
It took me by surprise and I don't really have enough items on the one character to take him down.

I guess I must be naive with the rest of Bnet but ive always given the charm to the game creator, even when hes been AFK. In fact me and a few friends have taken down countless DC's and have never had the charm taken from us and have never taken one - even in public games, minus one when someone had Pikit.

I will also help anyone anytime kill him in HCL West if Im on. Just whisper me at *corndog. My rule of thumb is game maker gets the charm. I have killed him several times for myself and for others.

My method of hunting isnt as technical as the real hunters but it works for me.

If the SOJ counter starts going up on a serer, you can check to see what server you are connected to by using the netstat command from a command prompt.

C:\Documents and Settings\manning\Desktop>netstat ?

Displays protocol statistics and current TCP/IP network connections.

NETSTAT [-a] [-e] [-n] [-s] [-p proto] [-r] [interval]

-a Displays all connections and listening ports.
-e Displays Ethernet statistics. This may be combined with the -s
option.
-n Displays addresses and port numbers in numerical form.
-p proto Shows connections for the protocol specified by proto; proto
may be TCP or UDP. If used with the -s option to display
per-protocol statistics, proto may be TCP, UDP, or IP.
-r Displays the routing table.
-s Displays per-protocol statistics. By default, statistics are
shown for TCP, UDP and IP; the -p option may be used to specify
a subset of the default.
interval Redisplays selected statistics, pausing interval seconds
between each display. Press CTRL+C to stop redisplaying
statistics. If omitted, netstat will print the current
configuration information once.

I think the game uses TCP port 4000. So look for a established connection on that port.

So you would be attached to server 63.241.83.185. Try and create games until you connect to this server again (perfrom netstat command everytime you create a game) and wait for the clone to spawn.

goto the d2 forums on www.battle.net you will see something like hot servers


you use netstat from windows
type netstat -n from dos and you will see a list of active connections

hot servers look something like this .184 .20 .191
its the last part of a ip address

if you see a connection on port 4000 with those ips the server you are on is hot

here some examples

xxx.xxx.xxx.184:4000
xxx.xxx.xxx.20:4000

If you are a Mac user using OS X the way for you to check your server is as follows:

Make or join a hell game. Use command M to go to window mode on D2. Go to the applications folder. Then open the Utilities folder. Double click on the Terminal application.

That will bring up a unix terminal. Now the proceedure is the same as for PC users. Type Netstat -n at the prompt and it will list a lot of information Look for the column headed with Foreign Address. The bnet address will look like 63.240.202.73.4000. As stated before the number before the 4000 is the Server so in this example it is server 73. If this is a listed active game then hang out in it till the clone comes to visit. If not keep hunting. Note that it can be a long wait hehe.

For those who have hunted the DC games using the netstat thing,

Has the lvl of the game made any difference (norm,nm,hell)? Does DC show up as often in one as the others? When trying to hit the "hot" server is better to make hell games?

Dclone will only show in nm and hell games. My understanding is that he will only drop the charm 20% of the time if he spawns in a nm game.

He has always dropped the charm for me in a hell game.

And he defintely doesn't always drop a charm...that i've heard form reliable sources.
