Avenger Problem

This forum seems to be filled with helpful people, and I'm hoping some of you could help me out.

Alright, so i decided to try out an Avenger, my first melee character in 1.10. I've leveled him up to 80, and as of now, in my opinion, he sucks in Hell. I was really happy with him at the end of Nightmare, when he could use most of his gear, but then in Hell, he fell apart. He takes way too long to take out a single monster. I'm guessing it has to do with his weapon. I've tried a few weapons, but haven't had much success with any of them. So far I've tried The Redeemer, Frostwind, Ghostflame, Lightsabre, Cranebeak, and a few others.

Maybe it's more my equipment rather than the weapon itself(which i don't think it is, since Vengeance damage is based on the weapon damage).. here is my current set up:

Helm: Gaze (6%/6%/15% ..Looking for a better one)
Amulet: Crescent Moon (11% Mana Leech / 5% Life Leech)
Armor: Guardian Angel (UM)
Shield: Herald Of Zakarum (UM)
Weapon: The Redeemer
Gloves: Soul Drainers (5% Mana / 7% Life)
Ring1: Ravenfrost
Ring2: Carrion Wind (9%)
Belt: String Of Ears (7%/15%)
Boots: Nat's (Until I get some Gore Riders)

And my skill points are distributed as follows: (after +skills)
Vengeance: 13 (21)
Resist Fire: 10 (16)
Resist Cold: 10 (16)
Resist Lightning: 12 (18)
Conviction: 20 (26)
Holy Shield: 4 (12)

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Now that I've typed all this out, it seems like my problem might be my slow attack speed, due to an extreme lack of IAS. Can anyone verify this as my problem?

Looks like slow attack speed, slow block speed(dont see holy shield listed) and zero FHR.

(The reason why Vengeance isn't maxed is because for awhile I didn't have much mana leech, so I decided to stop pumping it until I did.)

Ah, I forgot to mention that I have 4 points in Holy Shield, which turns into 12 after +skills.

What equipment should I change around, in order to increase my FHR and IAS? I'm already in search of a Highlord's to replace the Crescent Moon, I should have enough ML from the Drainers and Gaze.

What merc are you using? If you're not using one I suggest a might merc and ditch the souldrainers for LoH. You get the IAS and the increased damage from the merc should make up for the lack of leech and the Demon damage is just gravy

Would you suggest Shael ing the Redeemer?

The problem is: your gear is leech oriented and thus your attack is slow and weak. You should definitely have some CB. The simplest solution is to:
1) Use Heaven's Light (with 2 Shael) instead of the Redeemer
2) Use LoH or Dracul's Grasp instead of Soul Drainer

Add the remaining skill point into the synergies instead of vengeance to save mana. Use mana potion if needed.
