Vote: Your Diablo III Beta Play Experience

Posted 19 April 2012 by Flux

Now that the Diablo III Beta’s end is in sight, I thought it would be interesting to take stock of how well you guys were served by it. (Not that serving fans was exactly the point of the beta.)

It seemed like forever before the beta started to scale up, with the first (and only?) big block of invites served out last week. Even that 275k, added to the previous invites, only scratches the surface of the demand, with more than 2m presales already in the books, and virtually all of those people eager for some beta testing. That point was certainly driven home by the brief flicker of hope this morning, when the D3 beta was briefly accessible to anyone who wanted to play.

I can’t help but note the irony that huge numbers of fans have spent months being disenfranchised by a wide variety of bugs that have prevented them from downloading, installing, launching, and/or logging into the beta. Those have been largely ignored by Blizzard, or dismissed with a “that’s fixed in release” excuses. Yet when a B.net bug allows eager fans to get in and start testing… it triggers the RED ALERT and requires them to shut down the entire beta for 12 hours, and counting.

Rambling intro aside, pick a vote option that expresses your level of access to the D3 beta, and we’ll see what the survey results are. The vote script doesn’t allow for multiple selections, so if more than one applies to you (i.e you borrowed or rented access months ago, and got your account added last week) pick the option that you feel is most appropriate.

Have you played in the Diablo 3 Beta?

  • 3) Sort of -- I borrowed/rented access on someone else's account. (16%, 753 Votes)

  • 5) I don't want. Saving myself for the full game. (11%, 502 Votes)

Last Vote Results

The last vote asked what you guys thought about the newly-revealed Diablo III Battle.net Chat Interface. While most fan comments on the system were pretty harsh, the vote results reveal… that opinions are all over the place.

I don’t think we’ve ever had a vote with five different options that all received 15% or more. Dislikes lead likes with 45% aggregate disapproval, and strong like was by far the least-selected option, but with 30% who don’t care or don’t know, the jury remains out.

What do you think of D3′s B.net Chat Channel Interface?

  • 3) Don’t like it. Big changes needed. (25%, 1,318 Votes)

  • 4) Awful. Ugly. Overhaul required. (20%, 1,047 Votes)
  • 2) It’s good, but could be better. (20%, 1,027 Votes)
  • 5) Irrelevant. I won’t use any chat channel system. (15%, 770 Votes)
  • 6) No opinion/not sure yet. (15%, 767 Votes)
  • 1) Great system. Functional and attractive. (5%, 326 Votes)

  • Lest you think #5 is purely a joke, I know of at least one person, who has been thanked on this news page previously, who actually turned down beta access, saying he preferred to wait for the whole game. No, I couldn’t believe it either.

    • I made that post thinking that option would be like, 2%. And here it is with 2500 votes and it’s at 10%.

The person I was speaking of in my first post actually turned me down when I offered him access, which is why I was surprised/impressed. It’s easy to say you don’t want it when you don’t have it, but how many of us have strength to resist when it’s offered?

      • I was also offered by one of my friends to borrow his beta access, which I turned down.
I didn’t care to play it, unless it was on my own account (for no apparent reason, I’d be able to convince anyone else of).

I did win access though, by writing a piece on the Monk. The Monk effectively won me the beta <3<3<3

    • I opted out last year (few weeks after after I opted in). Just more fun… bit harder but more fun. :P

  • I actually thought about doing that but the temptation was too strong. I finally won a key from a fan site contest and have been playing since patch 14. Just recently, I started thinking maybe I should have waited. Oh well!

  • I won my key in the Gosugamers contest (not a lame social media one), and I wouldn’t have known about it if it wasn’t for Incgamers.

    So essentially, I consider it a diablo.incgamers key :P

  • It’s back up!!!!

  • I won it from the D3Database contest. :D

  • I won my key then I sold my account when I’d finished weeks of playing. Then I won another key so made a new account, continued playing.

  • I wanted a key earlier on, but when my friend got a key and asked if I wanted to play I said no. I played D2 for 10 years, I still play D1 for the nostagia, and I’ve read every Diablo novel. It’s safe to say that I’m a hardcore fan, so when I say that I don’t want to play the beta, it’s not due to lack of interest. I’m saving myself for the full Diablo 3 experiance. That, and I have minecraft to tide me over for the next 3 weeks.

  • Opted in as always.

  • I got my beta key by knowing a guy who knows a guy that works at Blizzard and got me a key.

  • My wife’s cousin just got access to D3 and Panda.

    She “can’t decide”

    Oh the pain!

Currently re-downloading the beta just in case…
