Video History of Diablo I and Diablo II + Bliz North Controversy
Moldran has created a video history of Diablo I and Diablo II, with game visuals and narration of events. It touches briefly on the developers and ARPGs in general, but focuses mostly on the games and gameplay, including memorable game encounters like The Butcher and the Secret Cow Level, but also the major problems like […]
Randomization and level design in the future of Diablo 3
Creating good random map generators is a difficult task in video games, and something we’ve seen done with relative success in all of the Diablo games. Diablo 1 had four dungeon types with quite different maps for each area, though all were just big squares with different arrangements of the pieces within them. (The Hellfire […]

SPOILER! Diablo 3 Secret Level Revealed!

Posted 17 May 2012 by

Some players have found their way into Diablo III’s secret level, which is officially named… DiabloWikiWhimsyshire. I’m putting the video below the fold since it’s a massive spoiler if you want the surprise for yourself. I’m not even going to comment on what it looks like.

It’s amazing, though. I can say that much. Thanks to Chris for the tip.

To enter the secret level you need a Staff of Herding. The Blacksmith crafts this item, and it requires 5 rare and odd objects. They are:

DiabloWikiBlack Mushroom — Found rarely in a room on Cathedral level one.
DiabloWikiWirt’s Cowbell — Act II vendor sells it for 100,000 gold.
DiabloWikiLiquid Rainbow — Spawns in the Mysterious Cave in the Mysterious Chest in the Oasis, Act 2. Save the old man and he will open the chest.
DiabloWikiGibbering Gemstone — Random drop from Chiltara in the Caverns of Frost, Act 3. It’s in the Ballistae fight area. If you get Ice Caverns exit out try again. The mob is random.
DiabloWikiLeoric’s Shinbone — Found rarely in the fireplace in Leoric’s Manor.
DiabloWikiPlan: Staff of Herding — To teach the recipe to DiabloWikiHaedrig. Drops randomly from Izual, Act 4.

This video shows the Cow King’s ghostly conversation before he opens the level, which is accessed through that mysterious glowing red pit on Old Tristram Road. There’s also footage of some combat within the hellish environment.

Another video with more footage, this one showing four player action. The soundtrack is a cheesy 80s song which the video creator says he used since the original audio was him and his friends laughing madly on Skype.
