Playable D3 @ BlizzCon?

Posted 25th Aug 2008 11:47 PM by Flux

We first saw word of this in the Jay Wilson video interview by Gamona, but now Kotaku has added a post addressing it specifically. Will D3 be playable at Blizzcon? Blizzard’s not saying. Yet.

“Since Diablo III isn’t here, I assume will it be playable at BlizzCon?” After all, when the sequel to StarCraft was announced, it was publicly playable just four months later at BlizzCon 2007. Surely, we’ll be getting our hands on the Barbarian and Witch Doctor in October… right?

We got one of those non-answers that was very telling. “We haven’t announced anything about what will be playable at Blizzcon,” a Blizzard rep told us. Inconclusive, yes, but delivered with one of those smiles that one frustratingly can’t print.

I don’t understand why they can’t give a yes or no unless they themselves aren’t sure.

They are probably (right now) working on something that will be playable at BlizzCon. So perhaps it’s a little premature for them to announce anything yet.

Of course you know why they don’t… they want things to be a surprise…

and as mac says, sometimes they don;t want to overstep their bounds and make false claims.

What’s the rush to know anyways… we’ll know at Blizzcon.

Impatients is not a virtue.

Well it isn’t about being patient or impatient…it just doesn’t make much sense to give an actual answer to this. They could just say "We don’t know yet; it depends on this or that".
I mean, as someone said before, it isn’t like people aren’t going to go if they say they aren’t going to have it playable. It isn’t like ticket sales are suffering.

I think this is how Blizzard PR works.

Affirmative negatory response means they know for sure they’re not doing it.  We know that if the answer is a no, they often just say no.  Just think back on the past "No"s such as starcraft ghost.

If don’t know about something, they usually say they’re not sure.  "We’re still discussing it,"  "we haven’t talked about it," etc.

However, there is one kind of response that they never give straight answers to when asked.  IMO, it is when they know they want to say yes, but to be safe they can’t say yes because stuff isn’t set in stone and they want to protect themselves and give themselves the freedom to change their mind.  Thus you only get a neutral uncertain answers.
