On to the Next Theory

Posted 25th Jun 2008 12:17 PM by Rushster

Here’s the new theory and we thought we’d share it with you all! The three images we have so far shows us something, it could be anything from a serpent to a purple Diablo and some have even suggested a walrus.. Could it be?

What would a walrus have to do with the Diablo franchise?

Michael Dashow, who’s was hired as “Art Director / Designer / Artist” at Blizzard North during the era of Diablo 2 and also responsible for the creation of the famous Diablo 2 image. In his own words:

From 1998 onwards, I have worked at Blizzard Entertainment as an artist and animator. For the game Diablo II, I did a lot of the character work: Two of the 5 player characters, two of the four boss monsters, a whole bunch of monsters, and nearly half of the game’s non-player characters. That’s in addition to a pile of interface artwork, and - little known fact - many voices for the game, including those of the Fallen. For those of you who play the game (there are many who are still hacking away at it even now!) listen to the Fallen next time you’re marauding one of their camps. Hear them yelling “Dashow… Dashow?” Well, guess who that is: grin

Anyhow, no voices here, just some art from the game, all of which I believe has appeared in various other magazines and sites.

diablo.jpg

Seen on his personal portfolio webspace as part of his logo is a Walrus, and as from what we understand he is quite known for.

Is puzzle image a walrus? And why would Blizzard have this one as the hidden image?

Maybe something along the lines of: “If you can figure out who this walrus refers to, you could also figure out what he has previously worked on.. and we’ll leave it at that.” 1/2 of Diablo is his creation, he might be returning to the universe, and Blizzard

And here is the kicker: So far we have the letters: D, O and W, perhaps they’re meant to become.. D.A.S.H.O.W

Too far fetched? You decide!

Here is Michael Dashow’s Walrus

http://www.diabloii.net/gallery/data/539/walrus-dashow.gif

I think this is the hidden image because:

1. Here is the text: http://www.michaeldashow.com/gameart.html

Anyhow, no voices here, just some art from the game, all of which I beleive has appeared in various other magazines and sites.

2. So:
DASHOW! DASHOW!!, The purple “thing” is:

D - 04.jpg (have)

A - 01.jpg (soon)

S - 18.jpg (soon)

H - 08.jpg (soon)

O - 15.jpg (have)

W - 23.jpg (have)

3. What IF Mr. Michael Dashow is returning in Blizzard to make D3? See the quote again -> “I did a lot of the character work: Two of the 5 player characters, two of the four boss monsters, a whole bunch of monsters, and nearly half of the game’s non-player characters” !

.. 1/2 of Diablo is his creation. Viva Dashow!

.. now go kill some shamans in act1 :D

Oh, seen this one?

Obviously made with yesterday’s images, but still quite accurate:

Slightly off topic… but still.

Was looking at Dashow’s webpage and noticed something I think is cool. Just a small quote.

Okay, so now everyone who saw this on Diabloii.net (hi, Flux and Elly!) is curious and folks are e-mailing me qustions and reading into my above post and all that. I haven’t been at Blizzard North for almost three weeks now, and look what happens to the place with me gone! grin I don’t know a ton but can share what little I do know.

How cool isn’t that? Not only is this site mentioned, but even the admins are mentioned :D

The links are way to easy.  If it turn out the be a whale, it will be diablo 3.
If there effectively are clues hidden in the picture, they will all lead to the same thing.  Just using the hidden picture to conclude diablo 3 is to easy.  You’d have to have a theory about the runes too.

P.S. even if it is true, this only means that he might have something to do with the new game, though it doesn’t have to be diablo 3.  A good artist/programmer can help in the creation of almost every game.
It may be in the right direction, though unless you link the runes/ice to it, I’m afraid we can’t assume it will be diablo 3.

sorry for this double post, though someone stole my edit button, and I find it rather annoying actually.

My points:
Can we somehow know what places dashow designed?  We have name - in the css file - referring to the frozen tundra, the icy cavern and one more.  If we can find prove that he made those - or find that he didn’t - then we can be more sure - or less sure of what this clue is about.

I NEED EDIT BUTTON !

http://www.asfa-art.org/admin/artist.php?id=40

When he is not working on illustrations, he designs and animates characters and creatures for the fantasy computer game “Diablo II” from Blizzard Entertainment.

Dont know about AREAS desing, i think he is character designer. Look also other work, not diablo. There are only characters, no other things (areas). In 3DMax or Maya you design characters, not terrain.

As you can see:

From approximately 1998 through 2001 or so, I worked on Blizzard Entertainment’s game Diablo II.
I was a character artist and animator
and did a whole ton of stuff, some of which is down below.

All he show is:
1. “the concept design, modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, and effects”
2. “the voices for all of the Fallen, the Zakarum Zealots, the Cows, a whole bunch of Non-Player Characters, some of the interface artwork, and many other characters who appear in the chat rooms”
