New Diablo III Art Director

Posted 16th Nov 2008 08:04 PM by Medievaldragon

Shortly after the announcement of Diablo III at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals, former Art Director Brian Morrisroe departed Blizzard to pursue a personal non-gaming business. We recently reported Brian and some friends launched Booyah.

Job openings for the Art Director position were posted at the Blizzard Jobs section for months. The long wait is over. The Art Director and other positions were removed from the jobs section. We contacted Blizzard Public Relations to find out the name of the new director, but at the moment it is kept under wraps. We will get back on this once the name is revealed. What matters is that Diablo III has a new Art Director to move forward.

Thanks, Lyquid.

I can’t stand purist fans…this actually delays the game.  Changing art directions because fans want more of the same.

Diablo 2’s change art direction was easy to overlook, in fact it made the game better.  Now blizzard is backpedaling because of the purist fans, and holding the game back.

hmmm, I wouldn’t call myself a purist fan, I don’t HATE the new style, it looks alright. But when I think how it COULD look, it just makes me grief. At least if they got rid of the washed out colours and textures in the outside levels and introduce more shaders, I’d be a lot happier. And I still think that they should introduce lights from natural sources rather than having out-of-nowhere hues of green/purple/whatever in dungeons.
In D2 I really liked the palace in Act 2 (which nobody ever played in MP cause they could rush w/o going inside) because the skeletons’ auras created such a cool game of lights in the stone chambers. I don’t really recall any random lights in D2 without a visible source.

being an artists and mature adult I let the people MAKING the game decide what works best.

Go make yer own games is this rubs you the wrong way.

That petition was a good waste of internet bandwith.

relax Uldyssian. nothing wrong with community feedback and requests, if companies thought the way you do, there’d be no betas or play-testers. and if this petition and “problem” in general created so much fuss, there must be something to it that moved a lot of ppl, no?
