New and Improved Diablo III Artwork

Posted 9th Mar 2010 07:37 PM by Flux

SonsoftheStorm.com, a website run by and for Blizzard artists, has welcomed a new “son” and added a heaping helping of his awesome artwork. The artist goes by Glowei, and as you can see on his artist page, he’s done great work for all three (revealed) Blizzard game worlds, and has posted quite a bit of personal artwork as well.

There are five images in the Diablo section, and while none of them are “new” in terms of “never before seen,” we previously had only photos or low quality versions of all four pieces of Diablo 3 character art. The fifth piece is a lovely rendition of the Diablo 2 version of Big Red, which has been used for page headers on Blizzard’s site, but I hadn’t previously seen it full size and quality.

While you’re looking, do check out Glowei’s Starcraft and Warcraft images, and the personal stuff as well. I actually found those the most interest, since there’s such a variety of work to be seen. It’s almost a pity they’re so organized, since if these pictures were not clearly labeled as Personal, we could have had a lot of fun speculating about what they were hinting at for Diablo 3! Archer character? Hybrid Archer? Female Swordsman? New Necromancer? Female Necromancer? Asian Necromancer? Male WizardMonster concept art?

Click the images to see the shots full sized. Thanks to KLS for the tip.

Yeah, none of them are new. The Diablo one has been on the front page of the wiki for ages. Such a great image of him.
That site is a complete treat to browse through. I "ooo" and "ahh" my way through it. To be able to draw like that, must be such a satisfying talent. Orient Necromancer - looks an interesting take on the necro.

Now that is a cool, imposing, and scary looking diablo. Unlike that 3 headed alien looking thing they showed on the cinematic…

Also, love that barb overlooking the city.

I'm kind of getting the feeling from some comments that people are skimming right past the "if they weren't clearly labeled Personal" part and just clicking the links.

I edited the OP to underline the relevant part. Whether or not that'll help remains to be seen.

we may have reached the end of the D3 “too colorful” art controversy.Blizzard’s designers have explained that the colorful, green/blue tinted D3 we see today is the third or fourth version of the art direction. fake tattoos

I don't agree that we have reached the end of the D3 “too colorful” art controversy. I like all blizzard's games and products and think they have a great potential. I would love to read more about this and perhaps my nice griddle pan that is doing quite well for a long time. Ok, the New and Improved Diablo III Artwork look great, thanks for bringing those news. I like to play diablo 3 and eat some snacks or food that was cooked on the electric griddle that my mother like so much. I believe it is called the presto liddle griddle and as long as the pancakes are good I don’t really mind about its name.
