Diablo 3 Panel “What’s Next” Q&A Transcript
I went down to the show floor to watch yesterday’s What’s Next for Reaper of Souls panel, but with my dev interview scheduled for right afterwards, I had to duck out midway through the audience questions. So when I watched the video of the panel today, I skipped right to the end to see if […]

More on the Naked Wizard

Posted 21 Jan 2010 by

After yesterday’s news peek, Bashiok has taken his turn on the naked female wizard.

Any guesses on when we’ll get a peek at this new look?

Bashiok: It wasn’t a total rework or anything, these things rarely are. It was essentially a color shift from red to a sort of muted mustard color (which doesn’t sound great but it looks awesome), and then a texture cleanup removing some elements and just letting the whole thing read a lot better. It looks a lot more like an unarmored look now, in my opinion. Before it was a bit busy and … I think you also sort of have to have a very minimal naked look so that upgrades feel that much more “powerful”. If you don’t notice a visual change on the character with a new piece of armor then it’s kind of like, what’s the point? She had too much going on before. Now she looks like… haha, it kind of looks like she’s about to go to the gym. To kill demons.

Also the female monk got a haircut not terribly long ago. She’s looking good. Much closer match to the concepts now.

And yes you’ll be able to see her soon. ish.

So the female monk has a new and improved look. With shorter hair, more like her concept art. Which is an easy argument for Bashiok to make, since WE’VE NEVER SEEN IT! *cough*

As for the new look “naked” female wizard, in yesterday’s post commenter Leugi pointed out that we have seen that look, back when her outfit was more red (as Bashiok says in the above post). You see her in the image to the right, color-corrected from the blue-tinged, smoky Tristram screenshot.

Viewing it in light of Bashiok’s comments, you can see his point. Her kit is fairly “busy” with all those slashes and layers on the skirt, and she does not look as simple and unarmored as you’d expect a new character to be.
