Max Schaefer on Diablo 3

Posted 4th Jul 2008 07:12 PM by Elly

Max Schaefer was co-founder and president of Blizzard North and one of the creators of Diablo, Diablo II and Lord of Destruction. Max was one of the “big four” who left Blizzard North in 2003, but he’s not forgotten the Lord of Terror. He shared his thoughts with us on last weekend’s announcement of Diablo 3.

I was pleased and excited to hear the announcement of Diablo 3! We’ve been hoping for this for a long time. It will be fun to see how the new team interprets the Diablo universe, and if anyone is going to do it, it should be Blizzard. We know it will be of the highest quality and standards, and that Blizzard wouldn’t release anything less than a first-class game.

Max went on to found Flagship Studios with several other long time employees of Blizzard North, and is now working on Mythos, a free MMORPG that is currently in public beta, for which we have a community site.

Because these 15 year old folks are the main target audience of today.

Mythos and Diablo III looks very similar. I bet they use the same engine.

I doubt it.  They just set out with the idea of making an Isometric style perspective game.

I also agree with the damn goofy comment from earlier.  That’s the main thing that puts me off of that game.

both Mythos and D3 use proprietary engines developed in-house. Mythos actually uses a modified version of the engine Flagship created for HGL.

It would be very strange if the 15 year old category was their target audience with a game like that. A game that is supposed to be full of gore and stuff. This given the fact that the average age of a wow players is in the deep 20s!

Have any facts to back that up? I find it kinda hard to believe. Though ofcourse, the monthly fee required could indicate older audience.
