This one was submitted by AniMe, and in it he writes about his plans for making some serious lifestyle changes when Diablo III hits. Changes made to allow full time Diablo III play, and he’s not just talking about cutting back on other games, or watching less TV. Are you this committed? Will you give unto Diablo III what it deserves? Or do you think it’s crazy to expect this much entertainment from a computer game, and think playing anything full time is a recipe for unhappiness? That’s right. Planning, and looking forward to unemployment in order to be able to play Diablo 3 the way it hopefully deserves to be played for at least six months straight. Taking a timeout from real life. Skipping karaoke nights. A rain check on singing lessons. Pause on telling girls stuff they love to hear. Oh yes, my Barbarian is going to do some serious sockrocking.
Guest Article: What it Deserves
Here I am, 24 years old, fresh out of music school. Being the lead singer of a rockband, hell yes! That’s the dream and I’m going to live it!
But wait! I’m not going to pursue that direction just yet. I have a more important task before me. I heard that Diablo 3 is to be released in a year or seven. Ain’t that the best of news?
This article is not about stating the obvious; “I can’t wait to play D3!”. This article is me sharing a bit of my history with Diablo 2 and reasoning (or lack thereof) regarding the coming release of Diablo 3. A little piece of life from a not-so-casual gamer.
Gather around children, it’s story time. Once upon a time there was this Swedish kid who had just gotten a present from his father. At 15 years old he thought “Diablo 2? My, this looks boring!”. One day his loving father persuaded the young lad into playing the game and boy did everyday life change for the little rascal. Diablo 2 proved to fill up most of the boys waking hours for nearly 3 years, before he had his first break. His days consisted of roaming the River of Flame, searching for those precious Urdars, browsing the Arreat Summit for knowledge, interacting with fellow players on the diabloii.net forums. The little rapscallions life could not be better, in his own eyes.
To this day I still see those times as my happiest. I had genuine fun twelve hours a day for years. Now, life is unpredictable and people grow both in body and mind. In no way am I the same person I was then. I have found my passion in life to be singing. I have learned what love is and what it is to be loved. I have come to realize that time doesn’t stop for anyone and in order to fulfill one’s dreams, you have to work hard!
So I will work hard! For around ten hours a day I will build arenas, scenes and stages. Money, oh the green! By all means, do get cozy in there on my bank account for I will need you later.

With disdain is this idea met from the general population. Playing computer games full time does not fit very well with peoples idea of “be all you can be”.
Now I wonder; as a person with no current gaming addiction at all, clean for years (the needle marks have healed nicely too!) how common is it to have the goal of isolating oneself with a computer game? With clouded vision in state of withdrawal I can surely understand it, but from a mind crystal clear?
But if I was to answer with two words; ‘sheer fun’, would you buy it? Is it really that simple?
Should we distance ourselves from those things in life we truly enjoy the most for they are too dangerous?
I know I wouldn’t be honest with myself if I did.
