Female Monk Revealed

Posted 9th Feb 2010 02:43 AM by Elly

As promised the official unveiling, (somewhat dampened by the unofficial unveiling a few days ago), of the female monk has gone live on Blizzard’s Diablo 3 site tonight.  There is the caeser-esk concept art on the monk page we revealed in our collage news item from Sunday but of course it’s much better quality.  What is new however is the cool animation of her at the top of the page.

The female monk has received mixed reviews since the snapshots taken from the Jace Hall show first appeared, the massive pauldrons and the peroxide blonde hair being two minor gripes but now that you have seen her in a her full regalia in a high definition full body shot what do you think?  Does she epitomize Sanctuary’s martial arts warrior?

Update: A second, more action-y piece of female monk concept art was added to the official site. Click it for a much larger view.

I’ll admit I am not a big fan of this look at all, it just looks wrong on many levels.

Too much armour - if she is to perform martial arts with those shoulders on she’ll end up ripping her jaw off. The greaves are not much better.

Wait? Are you sure that just isn’t an alt model for the male monk? *sarcasm*:D

How do you suggest they make end game gear look for a monk without looking like you just started?

Blizzard artists must have some sort of football/angel fetish. Not just D3 Barbarian/Monk, but most of WoW, and many SC/SC2 units as well have horribly crazy shoulder pads. Maybe they read too many Judge Dredd comics.

Also, is it just me or does she super crazy long finger nails? Is she actually Lady Deathstrike in disguise??

I quite positively LOVE it! The military garb really does it for me.

I’m sold. I don’t care what’s the fifth class, the first character I’m making is a female Monk!

Are you serious? She looks awful. Anyway, how do you define military garb? This is just concept art, anyway. Take a look at her on the official site, she's just like every other class; regular clothes. The barb looks the most military like, in my opinion.

Still don’t like the wingdings. Though I like her 3D model, the armour doesn’t look goofy. Though is it just me or are the boobs bigger in the 3d model? I hope they don’t go overboard with the boobs. I like the boobs the way they were.

I’m still not a fan of the white hair, too different from the male monk.  There are other ways of making the character stick out.

And when you think about it, the wearing a helmet excuse kind of supplements both sides of the argument.

Everything else seems fine though.

I’m sorry, but I like her. I think the 3-D model is better than the concepts, and I think the high-res concept emphasizes her age and experience more than the screencaps.

My question is - do you think they’ll update the other character class pages with the M/F toggle? That’s a nice little option there.

Yes I would love to see the M/F toggle on the other chars. Also did you guys notice her fight instance is totally different from his? Does that mean the animations will be much diferent? PS: I like her I'm not mad about the hair though. Wish she was bald with a ponytail. Cooler and not so modelesque.
