Diablo II Ladder Reset Coming May 2nd
Posted 19 April 2012 by FluxPerhaps this is Blizzard’s solution to what we’re supposed to do during the two weeks between the end of the Diablo III beta and the launch of the game itself… go oldschool!
This ladder reset, like all those before it, creates a clean slate where all ladder characters begin at level 1 with no previous items to help them. To participate, simply wait until the Diablo II realms return to service on May 2, log in to Battle.net, and tick the “Ladder Character” checkbox when creating a new character. You can track ladder character leveling progress by clicking on the Ladder button from the main Diablo II in-game Battle.net interface.
Of course if you haven’t yet tried Diablo II you can find the Battle Chest at any fine PC game retail store, as well as our online Blizzard Store. You can alternatively purchase digital copies of Diablo II and the Lord of Destruction expansion, which you can begin downloading and playing immediately.
seeing as this might be the last ladder reset, will blizzard be holding a contest for first 99?
We don’t have any plans to stop supporting Diablo II, including ladder resets.
This sound good to any of you guys? Or do you want to get away from all ARPG type games for at least a couple of weeks, so D3 will be fresher and shinier when you find yourself cursing and sobbing while stuck in an endless B.net queue come midnight, May 15th?

**** yeah!!
No good for me as a DII ladder player..
I would have prefered a reset on May the 15th.
Two weeks, from May the 2nd to the Diablo III release date, seems too short a period to enjoy a new Diablo II ladder.
I should have to think of what could be a fun target in a 2 weeks limited period of play as it is likely that I won’t play Diablo II for a long time after that date….unless ofc Diablo III reveals itself as the most crappy game of all time.
Why wait till 2nd May, give it right now not 2 weeks before D3
As of seeing how the talents work in Diablo 3, Diablo 2 looks more repelling to me. Can’t stand the thought of playing it. First time i tried playing it after a looooong while, i logged out after the first quest.
heh… I got the same experience as you… Can’t even drag myself to continue beyond rescuing Cain, and to think that I’ll just rescue him again in D3 loll
i’m the opposite. everytime i start up and hear warriv’s sweet voice, i find myself speeding through all the act 1 quests. its almost like muscle memory now. a reflex that i have no control over.
Same feeling here. I tried to give it another go, but there were too many frustrations. Non-existent mana regen in the early phases, not enough health potions, skill point hoarding, super fast stamina drain… They really want you to stick with the game for a rather long time, like at least a solid ten or twenty hours, before it stops being annoying and starts being fun, and I’m not willing to commit that kind of time at this late stage. By comparison, D3 feels basically fun right out of the gate.
Hell yea! Gonna roll a barb or bear drood HC, see how far I can get before the 14th ( gonna have to work out a lot on that day since I’m gonna be skipping the gym for at least a week after D3 launches………).
I agree with was said earlier.
D3 is SOOOOO much better in design than D2, I think you should let it rest in peace. The more I play D3 in beta, the more it is getting under my skin.
Not one dead moment, not one thought of redundancy, every time I down that Skelton King with one of the classes is super, in group or solo.
Everything is better in D3: graphics, portals, skills, crafting, grouping of players, economy.
I mean they reinvented the complete skill system for good. Gone are those dreadful ladder based points of no return.
Yes I know going from craptastic mood to full blown awesome mode and super hyped fanboy… For the first time I am afraid that Wow will not be the most played game for the next 6 months by me. It depends on the Pet battles and the farming in MoP, but here is this: Diablo 3 will be the biggest hit on PC since WoW.
D2 is simply too old in mechanics compared to what I see in D3.

I think this thread might be onto something after all…
Welcome to the pre-school yard – /sigh

Difference of opinion?! I must rationalize this as people being paid to have this different opinion! No one can have a different opinion from me! That’s impossible!
No need to get upset over jokes based on recent threads…
Bah redacted. I don’t feel like arguing, life’s too good right now. Cheers mate.
I own the beta of the MoP. I could not pass level 10 with my monk. After months of playing the beta (D3), my desire to play WoW just vanished. When I think that: log in, do daily quests, lfr, this repetition makes me sick, something that never happened to D2.I walked away from D2 only because of the hacks, but constantly suffer a relapse and I see myself doing another character. Only when I meet some bot doing Baal run, I get discouraged, then stop again. Bring on D3!
A good opportunity to do some crunches and stock the fridge, get the IV out, paint pentagrams or oh snap that was bad or something, and then go into cry chamber sleep.
Now, if they can somehow incorporate Ladder Season to D3, then I am hooked forever.
I’ve always aimed to get all the Elite sets for the 7 classes in D2, and almost every time I get anywhere near, they announce a ladder reset…
Last ladder reset, I kept my characters (I usually deleted them all to remake them as ladder) and carried on doing runs for the set items. But not having the ladder only options available, such as item upgrades, ended up annoying me soundly, and after considering to remake all 7 chars for the 8th time, I finally took the big jump: I deleted every char and never remade them.
As I’ve said in other posts, I’ve had a good time with Diablo 2, but after having played Diablo 3 beta, there’s nothing left to keep me playing it.
Ability to distribute stat points – 2 str, 2 dex, 1 vit until str/dex reqs are met, then vit for rest isn’t flexibility, it’s a nuisance. I know some builds require a different distribution, but they’re all set in stone.
Skill points – bah, most skills don’t feel exciting before you’ve placed several points in them, so you feel underpowered in a game where it’s intended for the hero to be super awesome…
My main hate is that you don’t feel you have a functioning character before the mid 30′s, if twinked, or 40′s if not. So if you subtract 35-45 from 99, you end up with a number fairly close to D3′s cap.
All of this is opinion, of course, but it’s mine and I’ll stick with it
Yeah, lets welcome queue for single player game ;d
