New Treasure Goblins on the PTR
We’ve talked about the four types of new Treasure Goblins since three of them were debuted at Blizzcon last month, and shown some screens now and then, but I’ve seen all of them numerous times during PTR play the last week or two, so here’s a compilation. New Treasure Goblins on the PTR: Malevolent Tormentor […]
Diablo 3 PTR: Bigger and Better Nephalem Rift Maps
The size and shape and monster density/composition of the Nephalem Rifts and Greater Rifts is one of the main areas of testing during the current PTR session. The big changes were noted in the first days of the PTR, with much higher density in Greater Rifts allowing most characters to instantly boost their highest Grift […]

Diablo 3 Coming to the PS3?

Posted 4 Jun 2011 by

ThomasJ points us to Joystiq, where we learn that Blizzard is looking to hire a PS3 specialist to join the Diablo III dev team. The Joystiq piece doesn’t link to the actual job listing, but I will.

Senior Software Engineer, Console—Playstation 3 Specialist

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an enthusiastic senior software engineer to be a key contributor on the Diablo team. This position is responsible for overseeing Playstation 3 (PS3) architecture design as well as other PS3-specific game code development to maximize platform performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain game systems to work on the Playstation 3.

  • Identify previously unknown issues and offer solutions.
  • Be responsible for various systems including the game engine, audio, physics, tools pipeline, etc.
  • Work closely with game design to ensure a great player experience.

So what do you guys think? This doesn’t guarantee that we’ll see a PS3 port of D3, and in their previous comments about console development, Blizzard only committed to, “…exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles…” That was last November though, and it came after years of coy, *if we were going to make a console game, Diablo III would be the best option…* type DiabloWikiblue comments. If they’re just exploring, they sure are hiring a lot of people and spending a lot of time on that exploration.

You also have to wonder what sort of back room business dealings went on between Blizzard and Microsoft/Sony, as DiabloWikiBobby Kotick pitted the two entertainment titans against each other in bidding over whether D3 would go to the Xbox360 or PS3.

You can sort the Blizzard Jobs page to show all of the openings on the Diablo III team, and that will show you two other DiabloWikiconsole openings, though without any specific platform mentioned. There are also 3 quest/story openings, so if you’re itching to create content for Diablo III and its coming expansions, you might try your luck. You’ll need previous experience writing content for video games to qualify, though.
