Diablo 2 Patch 1.13 ETA and Content

Posted 12th Mar 2009 12:51 PM by Leord

There seems to have been a slight misunderstanding by some fans on Battle.net regarding the term “Content Patch” for Diablo II 1.13. WoW fans know this, as Blizzard is making “Content Patches” all the time for WoW, but the meaning is just that it’s a “major patch, which adds content, not just minor fixes”. It does NOT mean that bug fixes are excluded, naturally.

Bashiok explains this a little bit further, as well as explaining exactly why we won’t hear of any ETA on the patch. As for me personally, I’m just surprised and glad they will make a content patch. ETA would be added luxury that I’d never expect.

Blizzard Quote:
Blue Post:
Hrm, well I wouldn’t expect an ETA to be given. Development time on this patch is going to be tight, but regardless of how much time is spent on development alone, the testing could toss it back and forth for an indeterminate amount of time. Such is the fact of development and release.

Not that anyone’s going to read this, and not like it makes a difference now to the 72 page thread in the suggestion forum, but it seems the text describing the patch was misunderstood by some. Underlining ‘content’ seemed to give some the impression that we are purely looking for suggestions to add a new act, or a new dungeon, or that there wouldn’t be any changes that one wouldn’t consider ‘content’ such as fixing bugs. That wasn’t the intent. A content patch is simply a description for a patch that is a major release, and not a patch that only makes minor corrections, fixes and tweaks. That doesn’t mean that those corrections, fixes, and tweaks aren’t also what we were looking for though.

The ambiguity therein of what that means specifically to the bugs and content you all have in your noggins makes the head swim, but that’s about as well as I can put it without promising one thing or another.

I think the interpretation of this patch just fixing bugs comes from the fact that this patch is called 1.13. Why don’t they call it patch 1.2 or 1.5? At least this version difference should show that there will be something in it worth looking at for those of us that haven’t played the game in years… I do look forward to what they come up with. (Please add higher resolution support!!) smile

A major release? That is going to keep our expectactions too high! F*** knows what it will include. Surely new material, apart from bug fixes, which is great news.

I do hope they listen to us.

Well, it’s not 1.2 though, since that patch was released many years ago. This might help you understand.

This patch will essentially be 1.13.0

They will definitely listen to us, but that does not change how much they planned to actually put into it in terms of dev time. There will be limits to what they can do!

All I want out of 1.13 is a balanced game, which includes but is not limited to:

- Paladin’s Blessed Hammer: Blessed Aim and Vigor Synergies should be 7% per skill point, not 15%. And the Hammers should be ineffective against anything that is Magic Immune, not pierce the immunities of Undead/Demons.
- Paladin’s Smite: Landing a hit should be based on Attack Rating instead of being auto-hit against everything.  Smite should be blockable just like any other melee attack.
- Barbarian’s Melee Combat: He’s supposed to be master of combat but is outdone by Zeal Paladins and Fury Druids. The only thing a Barbarian is currently good for is Battle Orders, Shout, and Battle Command. And even then a Barbarian is not needed for the Battle Orders and Battle Command due to the game-breaking Call-to-Arms rune word—which makes the Barbarian completely worthless.
- Get rid of the game-breaking rune words: Enigma, Insight, Call-to-Arms, Infinity to name a few of the many that need to go.
- Fix the game/skill bugs

By simply doing the above the game will be “new” whether or not they add new content.

I think people put too much into the ‘new content’ thing..

New content might mean more slots in the stash, shared stash, or something similar. New content doesnt have to mean ‘Act 6 and 7’, it can be very minor additions to the game to make it more perfect. Although I really hope for some major additions of course.. XD

Would I be wrong in assuming a new ladder season upon the release of 1.13?

As far as adding additional Acts. I don’t see that happening. Not saying it couldn’t be done, but why do it in a patch when an expansion is a more logical way of doing it, economically speaking of course. A new Act would be great and all but what I would like to see is shared stash and new unique, set items and implement all bnet gameplay additions into single player (Uber Tristram, Runewords, Ect).

The people have spoken. In general, we are more interested in getting the very broken aspects of the game fixed. “Content” can wait until d3 as far as I’m concerned.

woooo Galtrovan that all sounds exactly like what i want to see. and the ladder hopefully reset on release of this patch…

reading ur bit about the barbarian, i was like thats soo true :’(
oh and they need to either fix mind blasts effect on player characters OR let all the other classes that have a stun ability *barbarian, paladin, druid* to work against PCs, cause currently they dont… hence no stun lock builds.

either increase of the higher runes chance to drop or make better mid level runewords/low level ones.. not every one just gets bumrushed and baaled
