D3 in the Lycos Top 50

Posted 28th Nov 2008 11:12 AM by Flux

Lycos has posted their list of the most searched-for games and toys for 2008, and as you might expect, Diablo III is high on the list. D3 was the 4th most searched-for video game of 2008, which is pretty impressive when you consider how far we still are from release, or even beta testing. World of Warcraft came in 6th, for comparison. Here are the top 5 games; see the Lycos 50 page for the full list of search terms in games, toys, and various other categories.

    1. RuneScape
    2. Halo 3
    3. Final Fantasy XIII
    4. Diablo III
    5. Grand Theft Auto IV

Lycos.  Not heard that name in a long time.

(third time lucky with this post, apologies if it somehow ends up as a mmmmultipost)

Lol, Runescape. Wasn’t this some kind of crappy free MMORPG? They made a real game out of it? (Here I’m assuming someone wouldn’t offer a free game to another person)

I played one of the Grand Theft Auto games and man did that ever suck. They had put most of the work into a giant list of radio stations to listen to in the vehicle. Do these people not know there are better games out there? Thank goodness we have d3 coming out!

You have to keep in mind there a millions of sheep out there who will play anything.

“You have to keep in mind there a millions of sheep out there who will play anything.”

Wow man, that’s pretty harsh. You call millions of people sheep because they enjoy playing a game you do not like?

Runescape came out in 2002 I believe and has over 5 million active players and still it’s the number one searched for.  Halo 3 was out Sept last year but that’s hugely popular too.  Wow just missed out on the top 5 in position 6.  I expected to see that higher or Lich King at least.

the theme of this comments thread seems to be, “If I don’t personally use something or play it or care about it, then it must suck.”  Which is fine, just so long as you guys realize 99% of the people on earth feel this way about you D3, and by extension think you/we are idiots for for having interest in it. wink

People at blizzard are for one last time saying “look at me - I have a new game” before the lights go out and they are forgotten. Sounds like bad programmers with bad attitudes.  Time to look forward not back. The good people in the gaming industry don’t and won’t work for blizzard. So a lackluster game with big hype may or may not arrive. Nothing to get worked up about. People are tired of Blizzard. I think of Dairy Queen when I think of blizzard. Thats it.
