Cinematic Diablo =  A Girl?

Posted 24th Aug 2009 11:59 PM by Flux

Mega bonus points to site reader Uldyssian for spotting this on the Blizzcon PPV feed, and uploading images for us all to see. At one point during the broadcast, a feature was shown on the Blizzard cinematics department, and footage of Diablo, as seen in the D3 cinematic, was displayed. This is obviously fairly early modeling work, without textures or colors or anything yet added, but it’s definitely Big Red himself, as seen in the D3 cinematic. Comparison images below.

We have no explanation for his feminine body type and his slender, shapely thighs. Did someone smack the soulstone into a girl’s forehead? Is this a shot from some kind of transformation scene, before he bulks up into the finished model? Questions abound…

Actually I think that’s Belial. heh
Azmodan and Belial will be the main demons in this game according to Blizzard. Maybe Diablo will appear in the expansion but I don’t think he’ll appear in DIII.
Besides Blizzard even said Belial appears in Act 2….

“Well, our story tends to focus a lot more on the two major demons and the impending invasion of Sanctuary.” -Jay Wilson

“Act two’s a little bit more of an intrigue and deception-focused story, because Belial is in there.” -Jay Wilson From the IGN interview,

you look at it, Only one lower horn/tusk/whatever per side, I could point out far more but take to much space. he might discard the bodies after it’s over, but they still influence the process of transforming. For example, look at the difference between the first Diablo (kid host) and the second one (fully developed male adult). The final nail in the coffin for me is the 2 huge big twig like arm aoint out far more but take to much space. he might discard the bodies after it’s over, but they still influence the process of transforming. I am curious if there was ever any actual confirmation that the original cinematic was Diablo or was that just assumed?

I have a speculation. if its a girl model then it makes me think something is going to happen to Leah. But then again thats me and my speculation.

Well, people keep trying to discount that its him. meh. Prolly is… if it isn’t oh well. Bad ass head and shoulders. Love it. Skinny but I’ sure they picked some odd model so the freaks like us could spot it and go wild with speculation. haha.

Well the way they are so hush hush with Tyreal (and lore for that matter), it makes you wonder why they would show Diablo on a cinematic video. My guess is that it must be some other demon, as mentioned above.

Also, I don’t think they would feminize Diablo.

The demon shown in the model is not Diablo. I’m going on record saying this. If I turn out to be wrong, point this out. (lol)

That certainly looks to be a feminine body and it could well be that the soulstone has ended up in a female body.  Another possibility, as mentioned in the comments, is it’s another demon, perhaps something has happened to Leah.

It could also be a red herring and the artist just reduced a few statistics here and there and hey presto a distorted (more feminine) Diablo.

Before shooting that ‘behind the scenes’ they would have been very careful to remove anything they didn’t want us to see. Just to demonstrate their preparations, when I went to Blizzard’s place after last year’s Blizzcon they had blinds over certain pictures in corridors I would be walking down and this was in areas that the press hadn’t even been to just prior to Blizzcon starting.  So it doesn’t make sense that they would accidentally reveal Diablo in a new feminine form, giving the twist to the story away.

They could have left this fleeting image to see how quickly it was picked up and watch the rumour mill unfold.  I’m sure they love throwing us off the scent.  The devil makes ‘em do it.

That said Diablo could indeed be a big girl’s blouse now.

In one of the behind the scenes at blizzard HQ from Directtv there was talk about how they formed new creatures.  I think it was in the WoW or Starcraft 2 behind the scenes.  Anyway they said that they now start with a generic human body to make NPCs.  So it might be that they used a generic female outline because it was easier to sculpt Diablo from that instead of a generic male.

Perhaps Diablo’s newfound girlfriend.  Or his mom.  I’d hit it!

I hope that’s not Diablo.  Too busy and feminine for my taste.  I’d prefer Diablo to be bulkier and more imposing.  But we’ll see…
