BlizzCon: YOUR Questions for Diablo 3’s Developers

Posted 1st Oct 2008 05:41 PM by Leord

We’ll be going to BlizzCon again this year, so that means lots of exclusive content, interviews with the developers, and shots of the event!

We have plenty of things lined up that we want to ask the makers of Diablo 3, but what do YOU want to know? If there’s anything you’d like to see us put to the developers, add it to the comments on this news item. We’ll ask Blizzard your questions for you!

Diablo 3 Questions:
—————————

-Will the game include an in-game Bestiary ( which expands the more player kills different monster types ) and a lore journal ( with detailed info on the game locals and world ) , all for the sake of a more immersive experience since players won’t have to go to some site or another to get that info ?

-Will respecs be available in return for gold since this will give value for gold in trading too ( balanced by drastically increasing cost after each respec ) or will it be implemented in a different way ( after each chapter / by using a rare special item )

-Will something like ( surviving bonus = more chance of better item drops and EXP if player kills a lot of monsters without dying ) be implemented to encourage players to play through the whole game instead of skipping the levels and doing boss runs.

-Are there any details about the crafting system, and what kind of ingredients will be used ?

-Are there any plans to include various PvP modes like Combat Arenas for special duels or competitive PvP modes along the lines of “capture the flag”, “King of the Hill” and “Strategic points control” ?

Will there be an armory or other way of holding on to/keeping track of the unique and set items you find or trade for? How will you swap items between your own characters?

-Are there plans to allow viable sub-classes which differ drastically from the original design in Diablo 3, or will all builds be regulated as tightly as possible?  IE: Daggerzons or Rangerdins,  Meleemancers or Kicksins are viable or semi-viable builds, as compared to WoW for example, wherein each class has only 1-3 viable builds which usually are very similar in playstyle.

-Has Blizzard reconsidered LAN support for Diablo 3?

Can you tell us something, ANYTHING, about archery, arrows, bow skills, deviations or similarites from d2? I don’t expect hints about what another hero class is, I just want to know about new mechanisms regarding firing arrows.

For example, the arrows in d2 are far too slow moving. You have to run right up to a monster to avoid that monster from dodging an arrow by accident, like when Diablo paces slowly back and forth. What’s the point of using a bow if you can’t hit things properly at a distance? The merc arrows in the d3 gameplay demo still move too slowly AND they disappear after hitting. D3 should step it up a bit.

Secondly, merc’s in d3: will they be there, and if so, do we need them to be competitive or can we play just as good without one?

- what are Skill Ranks and Skill Levels as we see them in the gameplay movie?
- will there be difficulty levels (normal, nightmare, hell)?
- will you be able to share your stash with all characters in your account?
- will single player chars be stored on your pc or on the Blizzard servers?
- anything about PvP?

If you had no internet connection you couldn’t play single player if your chars had to be stored on a server. I assume probably on your own PC

They’ve stated that they will try and push people towards B.net for the multiplayer aspect, which is a good idea imo.

As for my questions… looks like there we’re quite a few good ones above mine.

For now I only have a couple:

1. Can you give us a number on how many character slots an account may have?

2. To generalize; You’ve said there will be a way to transfer items between characters on one account, have you decided how this will work and if so, how will it work?

1) Has there been any consideration for incorporating in-game communication with other party members via Headsets or system Mics?

2) Will the D2 “party” concept change in D3?

3) Will the B-Net accounts maintain similar rules, in reference to Character limits and Perming rules?

4) I realize that bandwidth is expensive and Blizzard has done a monumental job of not shutting down the older games so Has Blizzard considered adopting a single B-net subscription fee to cover all the Blizzard B-net franchises instead of just charging for W.O.W?  Getting a few dollars (maybe $3 per month) from players of Diablo, War Craft, W.O.W and Starcraft franchises might be more profitable than just the WoW players.

Will we be able to use the overlay map like we did in Diablo 1 and Diablo 2?

I am really no fan of the minimap when it comes to for example duelling and you want to know where your opponent is when shooting fireballs or bonespears for example.
