Blizzcon 2009 Diablo III Panels Revealed

Posted 12th May 2009 01:14 AM by Medievaldragon

Blizzard updated the Blizzcon website with a list of Diablo III panels to expect at the Anaheim Convention Center.  New updates will be added as we get closer to the event.  We will get a glimpse into the heroes, and monsters throughout Sanctuary, and a chance to ask Chris Metzen and his Creative Team anything about the Diablo III lore.

Diii.net Staff will be at this event to bring you coverage. Stay tuned for any free Blizzcon ticket giveaways too.

Blizzard Quote:
Heroes & Monsters
The hero you play and the monsters you slay take center stage in any Diablo game. Join us for a look at the design process that brings these characters and creatures to life, as well as the mechanics involved in creating epic and memorable battles.

Lore
Sit down with our lore masters as they delve into the past, present, and future of the Diablo universe. We’ll recap the story thus far, provide new information on the tale Diablo III will tell, and grant some insight into what’s in store for Sanctuary.

Art
From designing characters to creating concept art to placing the building blocks that form the world: Our artists take players on a behind-the-scenes tour of Sanctuary.

Pretty much the same stuff as last year, no ?

I hope they will reveal new game mechanics, new character classes and a countdown for beta (at least a hint..) smile

Prior to last year’s Blizzcon they hinted at a new class being revealed. Nothing like that in this text. I hope it doesn’t mean we don’t get to see one.

I like the barb picture.

But yeah, too bad there’s no Gameplay Mechanics along with the Lore, Art, etc.

I am very thrilled about this upcoming Blizzcon. I attended last year’s WWI and Blizzcon. The panels were awesome. I was able to gather questions from fans and asked them on the panels Q&A.

Expect the same this year.

@Medievaldragon

I asked you and many other people asking to post up our questions but you guys didnt even bother. I asked about what they would do about the future of Diablo II since it is still so widely played. Not one of you guys asked that question, instead you took the most commonly asked questions and re-asked them.  We heard the same things over and over again. I hope this time you are more creative and actually “scratch-off” questions on your list that have already been answered about 73 times.

Needless to say, I did finally get my answer to my question when they announced improvements and changes to Diablo II with the 1.13 patch.

I sincerely hope we get A LOT more than what those panels suggest. What I am more interested in, is classes, UI and Act development. The panels stated, don’t hint at those topics at all. Not to say that “Lore” and/or “hero and monsters” aren’t important or interesting. They just aren’t my forethought’s right now. And given the severe drought of DIII info, I expect a lot more than this. they had better deliver.

@ DeusEx

No, no that’s not accurate at all.  We came back with plenty of new stuff.  May not have had the opportunity to ask your particular question or one of us did and there was no answer for it.  We have personal interviews so we don’t know what other people have asked.  There’s always very good coverage of events.  Blizzcon was an event for D3 (not D2) and none of the team still working on D2 were there to answer questions. The D3 team are totally locked into their own game and unable to answer anything on D2.
